How Do I Load Correct Driver

I recently did a full Windows XP reinstall and I am now having trouble getting the correct driver to load for my 2005FPW wide aspect screen

I found the driver R86087 for this monitor and downloaded it but when I go to Control Panel to Display > Settings > Advanced > Monitor I found that the "Monitor Type" is "Default Monitor"  and the "Properties" box is greyed out so it doesn't respond to clicking and I can't update the driver.

Please can anyone help me

I'm having the same problem, just a different driver. I was told to download the chiset driver from Dell. When I tried that, I was told to download Desktop System Software. Apparently the motherboard needs this software to comunicate with windows. I've done both, and have installed them on the computer, but have still had no succes. I wonder if you have since found the problem.

Thanks for your response

I managed to get the corrrect driver to load by first loading the Intel chip set software installation utility then i loaded the video driver that corresponded to the hardware listed on the parts schedule from Dell.  These were both on the Dell Resource CD containing drivers for my PC.

At this stage the screen display was correctly proportioned for my wide screen and I then downloaded and installed the updated driver that i got off the Dell website.

My initial problem was that I thought that all drivers were installed at the same time as i re loaded Windows XP but I realised after reading the stuff on the forum that they had to be manually loaded off the Dell resource CD's or from the Dell website.

I got a document off the Dell website "Driver, Utility and Application Installation Order Guide" that had some useful information.

I hope all this is correct; my knowledge of this sort of stuff is minimal

Thanks Peter, I've since spoken with Tech support at Dell. They suggested my support time had run out but I persisted and he emailed me the 4 required driver links: Driver -Chipset, Audio, Video, NIC. They were indeed on the Dell website, but you have to be very specific as to which option you choose, for example, under one of the tabs, there was an option for 4 different Audio drivers under the same Dell Dimension 3000. Which to choose?. The average Joe would not know which. I never tried the others, only because the technician had already specified which one to use. Possibly any one of them would have worked. Anyway, I burned them all onto a CD and the next time I reformat, all should go well. Thanks to everyone for their support. Life is good again.
