How does USB port replicator work on U3415W with 2 PCs attached?

Just bought a U3415W have a Surface Pro 3 and desktop PC, I've connected several USB devices to the monitors down stream ports which I want to use on both PCs when I switch the monitors input, How does the USB hub know which upstream source to use when I switch the video input?

I'm also setting up shortcuts and found the ddm.exe command line switch for the video input is there a similar way to switch the upstream USB source?

for example:

ddm.exe /SetActiveInput HDMI  /ToggleSwitchPBP 1

The input select does not change the USB properties. The monitor USB downstream ports are tied to whichever computer the monitor USB upstream port cable is connected. Unknown about the DDM question.

OK not sure you understand the question, on the U3415W there are two upstream ports so I could connect them to 2 PCs, there is also an option to Select the upload port when in PBP mode, its labeled "Toggle Switch PBP". I'm trying to understand how this works do I have to manually touch the monitor to switch between these upstream ports, can I use the DDM.exe command line or is it automated somehow?

I have to go pickup the second USB 3 cable to test this out. Will port back with findings if you do not have additional info.

You are correct. I now see the two USB upstream ports. Each one is tied to a video source. I have no idea if DDM can do this.
