IN2020M 20” Monitor - New driver needed?
Hi,
I bought a IN2020M 20" widescreen monitor for my Dimension E310 (running win XP).
The max screen resolution of the monitor is 1600 x 900 and the set up guide recommends using the same on the XP display resolution.
Problem is that I don't have that as an option, the closet option I have is 1280 x 768. Do I need to update the graphics driver?
I tried finding an update for the driver but I guess I don't know what to look for, could someone point me in the right direction please.

Here is what the set up guide says:
Setting Up Your MonitorDell™ IN2020/IN2020M monitor Important instructions to set the display resolution to 1600x900 (Maximum)For optimal display performance while using the Microsoft Windows® operating systems, set the display resolution to 1600 x 900 pixels by performing the following steps: In Windows XP: 1. Right-click on the desktop and click Properties. 2. Select the Settings tab. 3. Move the slider-bar to the right by pressing and holding the left-mouse button and adjust the screen resolution to 1600x900. 4. Click OK. If you do not see 1600x900 as an option, you may need to update your graphics driver. Please choose the scenario below that best describes the computer system you are using, and follow the provided directions:
1. Go to http://support.dell.com, enter your service tag, and download the latest driver for your graphics card. 2. After installing the drivers for your Graphics Adapter, attempt to set the resolution to 1600x900 again.

use your service tag # at http://support.dell.com
what is so difficult about that? only one video driver shows up
if after updating your driver, you can't get 1600x900, then it isn't available.

Hi,
I was able to download and install the new driver but it did not give me the 1600x900 res option.
As mentioned in the setup guide "NOTE" it says I'll need to -
"contact Dell to inquire about a Graphics Adapter that supports these resolutions. "
Any ideas on what might be the best way to go about that?

they are talking about you buying a new video card
the video "card" on your PC isn't really a card but is integrated to the motherboard

Thanks for your help, yes I have concluded that I will need to buy a new one.
So if it's not really a video card, is my computer capable of taking a real card?
If so, what info do I need in order to buy the correct one that will sync up with the new monitor?
Is there an economical video card that meets my requirements that you would recommend ?
Sorry about all the newb questions, as you can see I'm not very experienced with hardware.

I would suggest that you post your question about a video card in the Desktop Video forum. They're very helpful.
Tell them your model of Dell.

Ray-zur,
I am also the Liaison for the Desktop Video board.
Your motherboard has one PCIe x1 slot and two PCI slots. You could add this PCIe x1 video card. Instructions are here and here.

Thanks Chris
I have posted a new thread in the Video forum and I have some further questions there.
