M782p Monitor Blanking Problem

So many people seem to be having problems with the M782p monitor going blank (including myself), I thought I would bring together all the threads that have been dealing with it.

Evidently Dell must know by now that there is a problem with this monitor, and yet they are still shipping it.

Some people have said that the problem only affects the M782p Revision A00. Can anyone confirm this? Is it fixed on Revision A01?

P.S. In the light of all the above threads, I'll be demanding a new monitor that works (and not the A00 revision). I'll let you know how I get on...

Not sure if this monitor issue is more widespread than the P992 but it could suffer the same fate (no further investigation from Dell into the issue). See the response from a Dell Rep regarding the P992: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/...

Hopefully this one will gain some momentum and have the issue addressed soon.

Did you get a new M782p revision A01 monitor?  And if so, did it fix the "blackout" problem?

Seems like lots of people (including myself) are having this probelm, yet I've seen no evidence of any clear solution.

I finally got a replacement monitor that works (after a few months of calling support).

Here's my suggestion if you want a new monitor: when you call support, make sure you get them to read these forums (give them the URLs). When I did that they finally realised that the problem wasn't me, but a design flaw with the M782p monitor.

One support person promised me that they had fixed the problem and shipped me (yet another) replacement monitor, but it was still Rev A00 and sure enough the problem started again.

Eventually I got a manger to agree to ship me a different monitor with the same spec. He promised a P792 monitor. One month later when it hadn't arrived, I phoned up and threatened legal action. A fantastic 19" P992 arrived the next day! I like the new monitor, it is just a shame it has taken 5 months for this to be resolved.

So if you're suffering with a M782p monitor that keeps going blank, get tech support to read these forums and insist on replacemnt with a different monitor of the same spec.
