Monitor Recognition by Device Manager in Windows 7

Hi Community,

I have both the 2408WFP and the U2410 connected to my computer and have chosen the 2408WFP as the primary monitor. I'm curious why the device manager in Windows 7 does not identify the U2410 monitor as a Dell monitor. The device manager refers to the U2410 as a "Generic PnP monitor".  However, the 2408WFP monitor is identified as a Dell monitor. Any insight is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

BHN54,

* Go here: http://ftp.dell.com/monitors/DELL_U2410-MONITOR_A02-00_R279694.exe
* Click it and save the file to your Windows desktop
* Double-click the file. It will expand to C:\DELL\drivers\R279694\u2410 DRIVER

(These are XP instructions so yours will differ somewhat)
* Open the Device Manager
* Click the icon left of Monitors
* Double click the Generic PnP monitor listed
* Click the Driver tab
* Click the Update Driver button
* Click No, not at this time
* Click Next
* Dot Install from a list or specific location
* Click Next
* Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install
* Click Next
* Click Have Disk
* Click Browse and navigate to where the three files are now C:\DELL\drivers\R279694\u2410 DRIVER
* Click the monitor inf file
* Click Open
* Click OK
* Click Next
* Click Finish
* Now the Device Manager- Monitors should show your monitor

Hi,

Could you change U2410 as primary monitor and check if it gets recognized in Device Manager.

Also, please let me know if you have you tried any other troubleshooting steps?

Please keep me posted with the results.

Thanks & Regards
Manshu S

Chris,

Many thanks for your detail instructions, in spite of pertaining to Windows XP. The device manager now shows the Dell monitor by model name as I had hoped for.

Manshu,

This did not work.  However, the instructions by Chris M did work.  The device manager now shows the U2410 monitor.

Thanks for you assistance.
