Monitor USB downstream port usage
Referencing this 2013 thread, do I have to keep the monitor USB upstream cable connected? Because as soon as I detach it from my laptop, the monitor USB port stop working. Is there any solution to this? Because all I wanted was to free my laptop's ports so if this is the case then what the use 1 for 1. Why should I just connect my mechanical keyboard to the laptop.
Thanks

@Mz1212 If you want to use the USB ports built into the display, then you need to maintain a USB data path between the system and display by keeping that cable connected. Otherwise how is a keyboard connected to your display supposed to interface with your system? If you only have a single USB peripheral you want to use with your system, then as you say there isn’t really a benefit to be had. But displays typically have 2-4 USB ports to support additional peripherals while still only having a single USB cable between the display and system.
