Monitor is 'jumpy', Need Help

Question

I have a Dell M991 monitor, latest(2001) drivers, Windows XP, service pack 2, all the updates, etc. Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card, the latest Omega Drivers on that.   The Problem: The screen randomly jumps from side to side for a second, and then back to normal, just a half inch or fraction of an inch, several times a minute, constantly. Needless to say it is very annoying and starting to give me headaches. It's not a virus, I have sufficient anti-virus software and just wiped my computer and re-installed windows, so it's a clean slate. It's done this before, but has gone away. I don't know if my monitor is just getting old or what?   Any help would be appreciated, thanks.   -Koolhan

Sounds like the high voltage power supply is going on that monitor. Time to toss it and get a new one. In any case, repairs are at a minimum of ~100 dollars on CRT's. I've seen dozens of older Gateway Mag Scan monitors do this, all with failing high volt power supplies.

I have found: my refrigerator makes my Sony monitor shake, so does the a/c. Any large electric motor or small transformer near a monitor may cause this. You could try a higher refresh rate, it may help, or substitute monitors to eliminate the computer as a cause. If the monitor seems to do it no matter what, service/upgrade needed..
