Out of Scan Range- Change PC Setting
due to virus damage had to reinstall windows 98 operating system on Dimension XPS 733 mhz pentium III with 32 mb NVIDIA geForce graphics card. Reinstall succeeded but display quality was weak so Dell Technician had me use the Resource CD (again) and install a different NVIDIA drive which for some reason wasn't done at an earlier stage in the reinstall process. This new driver resulted in restoring the desired display quality but on restarting the computer the monitor generated an "out of scan range-change PC setting" message. If the monitor won't work due the the out of scan range problem then how do I manage to get on with changing the PC setting that will allow the monitor to function again? I really appreciate any assistance!

Do you see the Dell splash screen before it says out of sync, or does it automatically say that it's out of sync?
If you get to Windows, then it says out of sync, then it's just running too high of a hz, and you can go to display properties in safe mode and change that to a lower number.
If it happens from the get go, try reseating the video cable to the card, and check the pins to ensure none are bent or broken.
If that still happens, try the monitor on a second system. If the monitor is cool on the second machine, your looking at a bad video card, or a card that is working on going bad.
Hope this helps a little.
