Yes. How much, that is subjective.

MBP audio out --> speakers

versus

MBP mDP out + audio --> mDP to DP cable --> P2715Q DP in --> audio routed from DP to P2715Q audio out jack --> speakers

Thanks for your reply. I do understand the difference in the routing process - but the reason I do this is because I like a super tidy desk with as little visible cables as possible (which I achieve by doing this). But I was wondering from anyone's experience, has anyone noticed a difference when connecting speakers via the audio out on a monitor? Or is there a noticeable degradation in audio quality? Perhaps it depends on the brand/make of monitor as well?

Perhaps my question is better asked this way... is the audio signal processed in any way using the audio out jack on the monitor? Or is the audio signal passed directly from DP in --> audio out jack?

We do not know how many circuitry "gates" the audio may go through. That data would have to come from the monitor manufacturer which we do not have access to. You are just going to have to test it on your end and let us know if you can "hear" a difference in the audio quality.
