P991 - Turning it self on and on

Here are some things to look at to see if they could be causing the problem.

• • Ensure monitor is in proper video mode
  • Perform monitor reset
  • Perform monitor self test feature check

Setting the Optimal Resolution: Dell™ UltraScan P991 Color Monitor User's Guide

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Display icon in the Control Panel window, and then click the Settings tab.
3. In the Desktop area, move the slidebar to 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 1024 pixels. Then click OK.

My P991 is doing the same thing.  It's some kind of internal shutdown. The green power light goes off, and the monitor can not be turned on again for a few minutes. If the on/off button is left in the on position the monitor will power itself up after the few minutes pass. Probably a component going bad inside reacting to heat. My monitor is also just out of warranty. (Aug. 2003)
