Problems with drivers

I just purchased a refurbished Dimension 4600, 2.6 GHz P4, 512 RAM, 80 GB HD, with Windows XP Home installed.  I recently installed Windows 2003 server as a must for my work.  Unfortunately I am having issues with the screen resolution and number of colors.  At first I could only get 1024x768 with 8 bit color.  I reinstalled the monitor driver and the video drivers (the right ones, i think) and now can only get 640x480 resolution and 16-bit color.  Help!  How do I fix?

Thanks in advanced.

I am having a similar problem and would also like help with this issue. I just bought a 1901FP and although I understood it could display up to 24-bit color depth, it won't go past 16-bit. My only choices in the display menu are 8, 16, and 32-bit (no 24-bit). When I select 32-bit, there is no change from 16-bit according to a test image I am using. My Thinkpad 560X displays this image fine in 24-bit mode. I bought this monitor refurbished and received no drivers, nor can I find any on support.dell.com. I am using the latest drivers for my graphics card.

Graphics card: 256DDR NuMedia nvidia GeForce 5200, can choose 16- or 32-bit, no choice for 24-bit

OS: Windows 2000

Can anyone tell me if there are drivers for the 1901FP that would fix this problem? If not, do any 1901FP users have a new graphics card to recommend?

Thanks very much!

instatia,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You will need to install the video card drivers for Win2003 server for your video card. Dell did not ship Win2003 server on this system and does not have server drivers for this video card.

Glatisant,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

It is not the monitors drivers that allow colors and resolutions in Windows. It is the video card and drivers.
