Program Pictures and Patters.
DELL told me that your Monitor listings are not covered by their Warranty. In other words, let's say your "picture tube" program display goes out of whack and program "symbols" disappear or move around. the screen. Let's say that a blue covering goes over program symbol listings. on the left side of your screen, what will happen is that program symbols duplicate,or program symbols disappear. That's your problem. DELL doesn't cover that problem under their Warranties. Of course they sell protection for $100 for 1 year or $400 for 3 years coverage. They just don't advertise it untill it happens, like it did to me. Read the small print. For all I know I'm breaching a dozen contracts. But if I keep writing as I do and DELL makes no protest, I'll consider DELL to have waived its "rights."
You get a page long message. The screen goes black. A full screen message appears starting with the following language -- "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damages to your computer. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_ EQUAL." I have no idea what this means but DELL does.
My machine is 6 months old, on its 2nd hard drive ands going on hard-drive #3 plus "crystal" work at home. I wrote DELL's General Counsel about my hard-drive problem but never got a reply. The DELL person I spoke with said Norton doesn't give you enough protection. Buy other protection.

gjsamuels,
This discussion forum is a place for folks get answers to technical questions about computer problems. The folks who hang out here are Dell customers, like yourself and myself, and others who like to learn how to fix various problems that people have with their computers and their programs. If you would like some assistance with the problem that you are experiencing, folks here are very willing to offer troubleshooting help and suggestions on how to fix computer problems.
I know that Dell does not cover repairing damage caused by a virus or spyware or any other "3rd party" software. If your system is still under warranty, I would expect Dell to help you with erasing your hard drive and reinstalling Windows on your computer. Cleaning any virus or spyware from your computer without doing a clean reinstall is a different matter, however.
The person who told you that you need more protection than just Norton Anti Virus is correct. Your system should also have a firewall (and it does because Windows XP includes a firewall). You should also have some anti-spyware / anti-adware / anti-malware software on your system. You should also perform scans of your computer on a regular basis (weekly ?) with each of these programs. You can obtain some of the best anti-spyware / anti-adware / anti-malware programs for free on the internet. These include "AdAware" from Lavasoft and "Spybot Search and Destroy" from Pepi-MK software. These can be downloaded from www.download.com. They are free and are very effective.
The specific error that you are getting, "IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" is almost always a problem with Windows or driver software. It can be a result of damage caused by a computer virus. In many cases, correcting damage caused by virus infections will require a complete erasing of your hard drive and reinstallation of Windows. It may be possible to resolve this issue, however, without completely erasing the hard drive and losing all of your information. Some additional information is needed to make a run at this problem -- When did this problem start? Did you add any new programs or new hardware (printer, scanner, etc...) to your computer around that time? Perhaps just before the problem started? Does this problem happen when you start a particular program or game? Or try to print or scan something? Or when you connect a camera? Or try to get on the internet?
