Question about 17in lcd (regarding screen size)

Hello, I am thinking of purchasing a dell 17 in lcd monitor, but have a question about its resoultion.  I see that its native resolution is 1280 x 1024.  Well I usually play my games in 1024 x 768 and I was wondering if it would really hurt the performance by playing my games in this resolution with the monitor or should I just buy a 15 in so the resolution will be 1024 x 768.

In the game options you can change the resolutions easily, but don't do it in the Display Properties.  That's what I do with my 17 inch LCD.  I have a 15 inch LCD as well and will never go back to it unless as a back up.  Large screen for less scrolling around.  Next time I will buy a 20 inch LCD

When you change it in the game properties, does the game then run in a window? If it runs full screen, you should see the LCD scaling artifact. Perhaps it's not an issue?
