Questions on 1704FPV Optimum Resolution, etc.
I finally set up my new 1704FPV, set the refresh rate to 60 MZ, and the optimum resolution to 1280 X 1024.
Good Grief - the type is just too small, at least for me. Here's a big 17 inch with this teeny type.
So, I kept the refresh rate to 60 MZ, but changed the resolution to 1024 X 768. This is better. (My old 800 X 600 was too big).
Is it OK to do this? Do I lose anything?
Also, where do I find "Clear Type"? Is this on the OS Menu? What does this do? You can tell I'm new at this!
One more question: What does the Pixel Clock (Coarse) and Phase (Fine) adjustments do?
I'm using the Analog connection on a Dimension 4100.
Thanks!

Using anything but the native resolution will give somewhat less of a good picture as many have found this out. Using something lower than the native of 1280x1024, than you might as well get the 15 inch monitor with the native 1024x768 since you are just throwing away real estate with that 17 inch monitor, using the lower resolution. http://news.designtechnica.com/print_featured_article6.html Monitor resolution information...
ClearType can be found, and turned on by right clicking on the desktop, click Properties, click on Appearance in the next box, than click on Effects. You should see a box now that says something like " Use the following to smooth edges of the fonts" Now change the box you will now see from Standard to ClearType. Now click OK, than click Apply in the next box.
If you need larger fonts because of your eye site problem, go back to Appearance, click on Font Size at the bottom and change it to a larger font to see if this helps. Than click on Apply and OK.

Thanks reddice. SR45's suggestion to my getting a 15incher wouldn't be feasible, and also, the 15 inch Dell LCD's have the 1280 X 1024 native resolution, so what would be the point.
By playing a little with this monitor, I don't see that much, if any difference in using a lower resolution for text and I find I can use the higher native resolution when I'm working on my photograpy, fabrics, etc.
I posed this question, not being that computer savvy, to make sure I wouldn't harm this monitor by not using the native resolution.
Thanks again.
