Random Degaussing

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. For approximately 3 weeks now my Dell Dimension monitor (17" CRT standard with Dimension 2400 CPU) has been randomly degaussing itself. In some instances it will happen once or twice a day. In some instances it will happen every minute. The monitor will degauss, shake, loud popping sound and return to normal. In some instances it will do a "double deguassing" in which it begins the process of degaussing, and in the middle of the first degaussing procedure it will re-initiate the process again. I do not have any issues with magnets or speakers (I have the Dell Surround Sound 5.1 Speaker System with subwoofer and speakers more than 18" from the monitor). I had the monitor plugged into a surge protector. I have called Dell Support and reinstalled the drivers. I have attempted to adjust the refresh rate. I have tried plugging the mon itor into different electrical outlets. Nothing has appeared to work. Any guidance anyone can give me on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

If that monitor is still under warranty I would recommend you send it back to Dell ASAP. If not then the monitor probably has a serious problem with either its Cathode Ray Tube or its transformer. If that it the case then it won't last long and you would probably be better off getting a cheap LCD.

Things to consider:
Maybe power fluctuations in the building, does a UPS help
Maybe videocard is dieing and messing up monitor, try changing video card
Some sort of heavy machinery nearby causing magnetic disturbances, I doubt it
