Resolution is stuck

Question

First off, i know that this problem has been discussed, but i know barely anything about computers besides the intermediate functions.   I recently reformatted my Dell Dimension 2400 on Windows XP home edition after fighting with a Trojan for 5 months.  Anyway, i formatted on Friday and for 3 days i have been driven nuts.  The screen resolution is stuck on the dreaded 640x480 screen resolution and i am unable to change it.  The little slider will not budge and i can't go into the monitor tab and change the properties because it doesn't let me click it.  The color depth is stuck on 16bit, and i think the way to fix it may be to put it onto 128 or 256 bit color, however i can't change that either.   *other problem* Second issue, i cannot connect to the internet due to the computer not being able to detect my linksys broadband internet router.  It won't add the network, even though it is fully functional.  So any solutions for that would help.   I think the solution is to update my video driver, but i can't get online.:smileysad: also, i need to know what to do in the process of updating my driver, because i have no idea of what to do.   Ask any questions you want about my computer and i will try to help, however i can't guarantee how much i can be online.   Thanks.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&category=0&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2441&devlib=6  This is the download driver for the integrated video.  Once installed, than go into Display Properties and change the resolution and color to 32 bits.   Hope this helps

Thanks. So essentially, all i need to do is to download the update, save it onto a blank CD, put that CD in my computer, and then install it, right?

You can download it to the desktop or Docuements if you wish, or burn it to a cd.  After which click on it and install it.....I used to keep a cd full of drivers from the past and some member's just download it when they need it later...Up to you
