Rotating your operating system

Okay, I have the 2007fpw and am trying to rotate the operating system which is winxp home. I have the MSI MS-6702 1.0, NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 100/200, 2.40 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64, 1 g of ram.

I did check the manual.....settings and there is no option for rotating the system......so Dell says you have to upgrade your graphics card for this rotating......but I can't find an update for this. I am probably not looking in the right place.....can someone help me. Thanks.

The driver for the video card should have this rotate settings function, but like Dell said, you may have to download a better driver or get a video card that has this capability.   You can try, and download a better driver from www.nvidia.com.  Nvidia is your video card.  Than install it.  In the system tray, in the lower right side of your screen, the driver icon will appear after you install the newer version.  Click on it, and it should have a rotation setting button you can use, as I do on my driver version.

That video card you have is really old, and I'm surprised that it works with the wide angle monitor that you now have.  Perhaps another video card should be purchased someday.

Thank you very much. I did visit that page but was unsure of which one to download because my specific card was not listed. I did not realize the card was that old. Is this the right driver? Thanks again.

That one you have listed is normally for the newer video cards, and you really don't need to install it.   I have shown three video card drivers below that you can install anyone of them.  If you don't like one, than uninstall and install the other to see if you like the results.   If they don't give you the rotation settings, than its time to get another card.  There are some cards in the range of $45.00 that will give you this rotation settings and won't bust the bank.

Thanks, I did try the first one and no rotation options. Which graphic card would you suggest that would also work with the upcoming windows vista os.

I am not a power user by any stretch, no games, just play bridge online, photos, fairly simple things. I will just take the computer to Best Buy and let the geeks install one of their graphic cards. I do like to keep my computer updated though.

Thanks again.

Okay, got the GeForce 6600 graphics card and the DVI cable that came with the monitor is not the same connection plug in type or at least it does not look the same to me.

Anyone else using this card?

DVI is the white ended connectors, and the analog is the blue ended connectors. The white one, if that is what you have with the monitor should fit as it does with mine and everyone elses. Let us know that color is the dvi cable connector.   You have the 6600 card or do you have the 6600 GT card ?  Do you have both the analog and dvi ( Digital )  connectors on the card  ?

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2007FP/en/setup.htm#Connecting%20Your%20Monitor   Scroll down and look at number # 2 which shows the dvi connection. To the right of that is number 3 and is the analog connector

I have the DVI and the VGA connectors on the card which is not the GT card. The pins in the DVI connection (Dell's enclosed WHITE cable) do not match up to the holes in the DVI connection WHITE (graphics card).

Now when I was at Best Buy, they had this Nvidia express card for 200.00, instant rebate of 20.00, and I got it. But an hour later, they said that was the wrong connection type for my computer, so they gave me this one instead. This 6600 is a cheaper model from what I can figure out and I may take it back and complain.

I do appreciate your help. Thanks.

Does the dvi cable end have pins on two sides and where there is a gap in the middle ( no pins )   ?

http://www.directron.com/dviguide.html   Click on this link and scroll down half way and it will show you the two types of dvi cables.  Hope this will clear some of what you are having problems with
