S2417DG has back light bleed
Occasionally , when playing games I get a straight red line where the bleed is located. Very noticeable with dark backgrounds, movies, videos.

fs1233,
Run the self test on the monitor as well as the built in diagnostics. You also may need to reset the monitor. Click the link below to download the online manual for instructions running the test.

http://imgur.com/a/WuzgU I tried running monitor diagnostics tests on the monitor's webpage but it won't recognize the service tag.

Based on those pictures, this monitor passes our guidelines for uniformity. We cannot exchange it.

How do I lessen the effect it has on dark black screens like this? http://imgur.com/a/UpWYm, it is pervasive when watching movies/videos with dark bars, and dark atmospheres in games

Dell doesn't test/validate in a dark room which is what you are showing. All monitors are inspected per industry standard, which is with 150lux ambient lighting (similar to typical office lighting). Any visual inspection should be done in the same manner. I do not know of any way to lessen the effect.

I could try inspecting the monitor via better lighting and see if there's better results
