S2440L Problems
The problem in this monitor is that it shoots horizontal lines across the screen when connected via HDMI to HDMI. But when i use my HDMI cable via DVI to HDMI adapter, that problem is fixed. Is there really a point in having HDMI port in this monitor?
The bigger problem it has is that this monitor goes crazy and keep blinking on and of randomly, it will happen no matter what. This monitor just worked fine for a day and then problems came. So I call up Dell an get it replaced. After replacing the second monitor goes crazy as well.
So I spent a week figuring out if the problem was not with the monitor. For which I hooked up other monitors (dell dell se198wfp and benq gw2450) to my system and they worked fine. I hooked my monitor to other systems and the problems were still there.
I even packed my monitor and took it to a few of my friends place to check it and the problems were still there. I also called an electrician to check earthing problems. Earthing seems to be ok. I plugged the monitor in a UPS also a surge protector and also trip protection switch. It was all of no use. I checked cables. I checked my GFX card. Nothing but the monitor had issues.
After a week I call dell again. They say we will replace your monitor and they assure me that I wont face such issues again, ever. So the third monitor comes in. I hook it up and an hour later it went crazy like
. I called dell again they sent me 4th
monitor and the 4th goes crazy as well, seriously what the
?
I have requested for a refund now. But this is so disappointing. This product has potential to be the perfect monitor. The colour quality is on par with IPS panels, the glossy screen makes is much better like apple's cinema display. The quality on this monitor is so awsome and the monitor does not work properly. How can a company like DELL make a product like this? Was it even tested?

Four displays with the same issue sounds very odd.
Did you happen to record the monitor serial PPID numbers?
Were these purchased new, directly from Dell?
Did you remove the Dell Displays Manager software and retest the monitors when the software was removed?

Hi Chris,
Thanks for responding. No I did not record PPID numbers. But I recorded videos of all the monitors that were sent to me by DELL.
I did not purchase directly from DELL but the replacements were sent to me by DELL.
I didn't even had the dell display manager installed. Although I have it now.
So Four replacements and a month later DELL has agreed to provide me a refund. They said I'd get a call from sales department in 2 days, been a week now no calls.
I have the third replacement monitor with me now, it has same issues but its the most stable of them four.
And for some reason it is working fine now since 2 days. I think its just for time being, it may start going crazy again or hopefully not.
Chirs, can you figure out what exactly is causing the problem, cause I really don't want to get rid of this monitor. only if it worked fine.
If you want i can mail you the videos of the problem.
can you tell me if a standard HDMI cable gave me problem. coz ive switched to a high speed HDMI.
Thanks again.

It could have been the cable but there is no way for me to know. We would need the monitors in house to try to replicate your issues.

Hi,
I don't have any issues in relation to performance of this Model unfortunately the same does not apply to build quality. This was already replaced by dell India after a brain storming session with one of technical troubleshooter. But the same problem again and unfortunately my product is out of warranty. Via online sources one can easily deduce that this model itself has a manufacturing defect and after some time dust deposits within the screen which makes it impossible to wipe off thus obstructing the Pic quality. .
