S2716DG, horizontal scan lines issue, #3

Good Afternoon,

I've hit a bit of a problem with my S2716DG. 3/4 of my monitor from the bottom now has faded lines / gray lines running all the way from left to right. I've seen a couple of other posts with what appear to be exactly the same issue but unfortunately they go into private message and I do not see any resolutions. The highest line appears to be thicker than the rest and the bottom line of pixels on the monitor appears to sometimes flicker but this does stop.

I've performed a hard reset and this didn't resolve the issue. I've also disconnected the DP cable and run the diagnostics. The lines a far more visible on the grey test page but much harder to see on other colors. I've also tried HDMI port and changing the DP on my GTX 1080 but to no avail. I'm connected GTX 1080 DP Out -> S2716DG via DP port cable -> S2716DG DP in port. If I highlight a picture it shows the imperfection quite clearly but you can also see it in games too. It's a bit of a pain, it's one of those things that once you have spotted it you can't unsee it and it ruins the experience of using the monitor.

Anyone else come across this problem and got a fix? I'm at a loss on how to get this one fixed and I expected quite a bit more build reliability from a £550 monitor.

Cheers all

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the reply. I purchased my monitor in September 2017 - what are my options? I'm 2 months out of my warranty I believe. The monitor has never been moved and never damaged in anyway so I'm not sure how this has happened? I'm an IT Engineer and deal with computers all the time and they seem to rarely go wrong. Just frustrating for me that my 3 year old £550 monitor is starting to fail. Yet my Partner is using my old 5 year old monitor and my daughter has my 10 year old monitior and all working fine. Both of those cost under £100

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Hoping my only resolution isn't to simply buy another monitor because if it is, I'll sadly be looking else where. I picked this monitor as i believed Dells quality control was better than it rivals and thought I'd be getting a screen that would last.

In the older thread, the DELL-Cares reply stated, "A monitor exchange was setup on September 30.".  The exchange was the resolution. They exchanged it because StarLord2020 was still inside the purchased warranty period. Like StarLord2020, you have to provide pictures of the issue. Then a DELL-Cares agent can work the case.

"2 months out of my warranty"
Understood. From a Dell warranty policy position, there is nothing that we can do.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the update. Not going to lie, that completely. I think I'm going to have to look down the Sale of Goods Act legislation. I don't feel the item was fit for purpose to last only 3 years with mild use and never been moved, let alone damaged. Based on other forums and also this one there this issue appears to be popping up quite a few times with this exact model of monitor. That tells me the fault is with the product itself. If this was a £100 budget monitor I think I would be able to accept its simply out of warranty, but let's be honest it's not, it's a £550 high end monitor. As I have up to 6 years under this legislation, I fall easily within it and doesn't look hard to prove based on other posts about the internet.

Are you able to give me an email or contact details for anyone I can contact to go into this with? Sorry to sound like such a pain but sometimes it's hard to simply roll over.

Residing in the USA, I cannot speak to the UK Sale of Goods stuff. You will have to start by contacting Dell UK support and stating your opinion. That will generate a Dell Service Request number. Then fill out the UK "Report an Unresolved Issue" form.
