S2719DGF, Sapphire R9 285, no 144Hz, thread #1

Jump to solution

Hi ,

Just bought the monitor this Black Friday. Looks great but I can't get it to run at 144Hz. Have tried everything that came to mind:

- used the included HDMI cable
- mDP to DP (mDP to DP along a DP-DP cable)
- mDP to hdmi (included cable with an adapter)
- installed latest drivers

My video card is a Sapphire R9 285 ITX and it has an HDMI and two mDP ports. I'm currently running at 1440p and the only refresh rates windows 10 64 shows is 60Hz. Have also tried 1080p, same result.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Problem solved.

I bought a DP 1.2 cable and it worked.

Here is the User's Guide.

* Turn the PC and S2719DGF off
* Disconnect all video cables from both

* Connect like this =
PC AMD video card HDMI out port --> S2719DGF HDMI to HDMI cable --> S2719DGF #5 HDMI 2.0 port

* Turn both on

* Press the S2719DGF Menu button
* Open Input Source

We know that both the S2719DGF and S2419HGF are hardware capable of AMD FreeSync. This has to be an AMD setting issue somewhere.

The monitor Menu- Game used these settings;
Overclock = On
FreeSync = On
Exit the Menu

What happens when you then press the #2 FreeSync button on the monitor?

Did you test using this specific setup?
Sapphire R9 285 ITX mDP out port --> mDP to DP cable --> S2719DGF DP in port

My mistake, Overclock only refers to using DP to set 155Hz. So you not being able to set it is correct. You have verified via the picture above that the HDMI cable is plugged into HDMI 2 2560x1440/144Hz and not HDMI 1 2560x1440/60Hz?

To see Overclock On, test this =
Sapphire R9 285 ITX mDP out port --> mDP to DP cable --> S2719DGF DP in port

Hi again,

The HDMI cable is indeed plugged into the #2 HDMI monitor input. I'm so disappointed. Not blaming the monitor but I really bought this mainly for it's 144Hz refresh rate.

The fault lies with the 2014 Sapphire R9 285 which only supports only support DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.4. You need to get a new AMD video card that has DP 1.4. (AMD RX 460/470/480/560/570/580/Vega)

Nice 🙂 Thanks Chris! I really wasn't expecting the video card to be the culprit. At least now I know what I want for Christmas 🙂

One more thing though, wouldn't hdmi 1.4 be able to support a higher refrash rate at a lower res? I get max 60hz at both 1080p and 720p on both hdmi and dp.

Edit2: just realized that the dp cable I was using was 1.1  Will buy another 1.2 one and try again.

I found several threads on other forums where people mentioned that DP 1.2 can handle 1440p up to 165hz and 4k up to 75hz.
