S2740L, can't install Dell Display Manager
Just bought a Dell S2740L Monitor. I have it as an external monitor connected to my old Toshiba Satellite laptop (through the VGA cable). Everything works fine and I love the screen display. However, I can't install either "Dell Display Manager" or the monitor/display driver(s). I ran the installation CD, installed the "display manager" and the corresponding "upgrade" (online download) quite a few times but nothing yet (My steps were: install-reboot pc-uninstall-reboot pc-re/install-reboot pc-uninstall .. and so on; I also unplugged the monitor power twice for over 15 sec and plugging it back in but still nothing) and checked out the power and VGA cable connections. I tried using the corresponding drivers and applications from Dell's website, but it still gets the same TWO error messages:
1) After running the "Display Manager," it pops up the message: "This program requires a supported Dell monitor and compatible driver display driver. If you believe your system meet these requirements, try power cycling the monitor and/or updating the display driver."
2) After running the "Dell Monitor Driver Installer," it pops up the following message:
"The following connected monitors have been detected:
Def Plug and Play Monitor - Default Monitor
Samsung Plug and Play Monitor - SEC3341
Drivers for the following connected monitor have been found:
Dell S2740L(Analog) - DELA08C
Dell S2740L(Digital) - DELA08D
Dell S2740L(HDMI) - DELA08E
Drivers for the following connected monitor can be installed: None. Please connect your monitor before running this program."
My laptop is an old Toshiba Satellite M305-S4848, Win 7. It's funny, because everything worked out perfectly fine with my other old Gateway laptop, Win Vista. Dell Display Manager could be installed easily on that. I am not in a hurry but I would appreciate any help please or advise. Thank you and have a blessed 2014!

Jarbus80,
Did you connect the S2740L monitor USB upstream cable from the bottom of the S2740L to a USB port on the computer? Click the link below, #5.

Hi Chris. Yes, I did: I connected the 3 cables (power, vga, and usb upstream) as showed in the quick installation guide. But still nothing.
I just spoke with a Dell rep (through chat), so I pretty much copied and pasted what I stated in my former question, but he said it looks like the Display Manager does not work with Win 7 (it does with Win Vista 'though). He advised to just wait for a Dell upgrade later (or even a Toshiba video driver update). I think it's kind of weird that it did work with my Gateway laptop (Win Vista) but not with the Toshiba (Win 7 32-bit) one. Anyway, I'm still happy with the screen display and all that, but if anyone have some advise, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

The Display Manager does work in Windows 7. The notes here (ddmsetup1244.exe) under Compatibility state:
Dell S2740L Monitor
MS Windows 7 32-bit
MS Windows 7 64-bit
MS Windows 8 32-bit
MS Windows 8 64-bit
MS Windows Vista 32-bit
MS Windows Vista 64-bit
The newer version, (ddmsetup1260.exe) does not state compatibility with the S2740L but is also compatible with Windows 7:
MS Windows 7 32-bit
MS Windows 7 64-bit
MS Windows 8 32-bit
MS Windows 8 64-bit
MS Windows Vista 32-bit
MS Windows Vista 64-bit

I have already tried with the application & driver on Dell's website for S2740L monitor:
< >
1) ddmsetup1244.exe
2) DELL_S2740L-MONITOR_A00-00_DRVR_MNDPY.EXE
But same error issue. I will try with the "ddmsetup1260.exe" file later this afternoon to see what happens. Thank you Chris!

This looks like a VGA cable and/or connection issue with your Toshiba laptop. These Dell programs require bidirectional communication with the monitor, and that occurs over just 2 of the 15 pin/lines in a VGA cable. If even 1 of those 2 lines is broken or loose or crimped, communication fails even though the video signal can be just fine.
Shut down your laptop, and check the cable is secure at both ends, and *direct* (it does *not* pass thru a switch box or cable extender). If this is the same cable you used with the Gateway, the cable itself should be fine, but if not use the Gateway cable.
