S3422DWG, 2560x1080, Windows 10 HDR disabled

Unhappy with the performance of RDR2 (Red Dead Redemption 2) with my GTX 1080 and the above monitor at 3440x1440. I used Nvidia's Control Panel to make a custom 2560x1080 resolution, which is working very well in game. The downside is that I lost my ability to use HDR in game and out. Running on DisplayPort.

Within Windows 10 display setting, the Use HDR toggle is off and selecting it briefly flashes the display, and then turns off again. It's a bit of a bummer to lose HDR as it was looking pretty sweet in game. Any advice would be appreciated.

2560x1080 is not on the supported list of resolutions. I see 2560x1440 60Hz/120Hz/144Hz starting on page 19 in the online S3422DWG User's Guide. The only "1080" shown is 1920x1080 60Hz/120Hz/144Hz.

In your testing, are you first entering the S3422DWG Menu- Display- Smart HDR and choosing one of the four options =
Desktop
Movie HDR
Game HDR
DisplayHDR 400

Then opening the Windows 10 display setting and toggling HDR and advanced color On? If yes and not working, then change the resolution to supported 2560x1440 and retest.

Thanks for your reply. I can set the Smart HDR option before selecting 2560x1080 and it would stick, yet any fiddling around in Nvidia scaling would turn HDR off requiring a revert to 3440x1440, then back again to 2560x1080 for it to hold.

Regardless, it would seem Red Dead simply refuses to go full-screen this way making the in-game HDR option a non starter as it doesn't apply correctly. Such as I found out when I first unboxed this product as I generally play border-less window. Maybe one day GFX pricing will return to something reasonable, until then I can deal with it

I'll look through that video you posted and see what else I can tweak.

Cheers!
