ST2420L, Input Timing is Not Supported

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Dell ST2420L monitor. Upon plugging it in for the first time, via the DVI cable, I received this error message:

"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 1920x1080@60hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications."

I proceeded to change to the required resolution settings, by updating to the latest video card drivers (ATI Radeon X800 XL). It still did not work immediately and it took a few times, turning the monitor on and off before it eventually started to receive the input from my PC/Video Card.

That was until my computer went to sleep, and when trying to wake it again, the same error message appeared again.

This is a very intermittent problem and I have no idea what triggers it or what fixes it. Sometimes just a simple switching of the monitor off and on does the trick, sometimes not. Sometimes switching the inputs back and forth does it, sometimes not. Very frustrating stuff.

I have updated to all the latest drivers (video card, monitor display, etc.)

There is one thing I have ocme across, it seems as if Windows 7 will not allow me to chnage the refresh rate to 60hz permanently, it always defaults to 59hz. Would that be the cause of the problem? I can't imagine everyone with Windows 7 is having trouble with this.

Also, I have used the HDMI port with my PS3 with no problems. It is just using my desktop computer (Dell Dimension E521) with the DVI port that causes the trouble.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning this monitor.

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Let me suggest you post in the monitors forum. I do see several posts on this topic, so try searching first.

Hi there,

Thanks for your suggestions and thank you for moving this to the appropriate forum. I tried searching for a similar problem, as you suggested, and could not find anything. What posts were you speaking of?

I'm still having the problem and I'm ready to call Dell for a replacement or refund. There doesn't seem to be any other option at this point.
