Serious problem with Dell Monitor SE2716H

I bought a Dell Monitor SE2716H (27inch, 16:9) to connect to my laptop.  Last night I connected it to my laptop (using the provided HDMI cable), and the laptop crashed. Now, it seems that the graphic card (or mother board) of my laptop has been permanently damaged, and I don't use the monitor as I am worried that it might further damage the laptop. The problem is that now I can't use my laptop more than 5 minutes, as after a few minutes, the display becomes messed up and the OS reboots itself. I have been running my laptop for two years with no such problem at all, and this problem occurred when I connected it to the Dell monitor for the first time last night. It's okay to sell a bad monitor, but don't sell a monitor that damages the laptop that it is connected to.

I have never seen a monitor break a computers hardware by simply attaching the monitor to the computer. To start, you should reinstall the laptop chipset and GPU video drivers. Then restart the laptop and test it. I would also test the monitor using the same HDMI cable on a different computer.
