Small persistent lines following mouse icon

Occasionally, short horizontal lines begin filling the screen as the mouse icon moves, obliterating the display. They can also appear randomly over the screen. Often (but not always) this occurs while composing email in Netscape. I've seen posts about this before, but no answers. Is this a mouse or video driver problem? Thanks.

I imagine you turned off mouse trails in mouse properties. If not, first thing to try, then Support.

I haven't tried reinstalling any drivers yet. The next time this happens, I'm going to try to save a screen capture and perhaps send it to Dell. Could also be mouse drivers, I suppose. I was just hoping that this was a well-known problem with a well-known fix before I started reinstalling everything!

Having same problem with thin lines that seem to obliterate the graphics or text - whatever is on the screen...Happens very intermittently. So far have installed new graphics card (Dell sent new part for my 1 month old computer), changed the mouse (thus the driver), uninstalled the fax software as I thought that was conflicting somehow while online; still to no avail, as it happened again recently. Many times I need to reboot to get back to normal. Can't figure what is causing it. I have Dell monitor E770 - is that common to you all that have problems? Please help if any answers...This is my newest computer in 6 years. My two six yr old PCs work great to this day, and I had never seen this kind of display distortion...

I just purchased my computer on 1/14/01 and received it on 1/17/01. From the very first day, I have been experiencing the very same thing you are talking about. Have you reintalled the drivers for the monitor or the mouse with any luck? Seems like when you call Dell support, after being on hold for an hour... you speak with someone that knows nothing anyway.
If you have found a resolutiuon, I would apprecitate some assistance as well.

I have the VERY same problem, the verticle line follows the mouse pointer... but when the mouse is NOT seen on screen the line disappears, and if I switch from DVI cable to Analog cable it REDUCES the problem but not get rid of it completely, this is with my ATI 9800 Pro, I have seen some posts about ATI cards having similar problems on laptop LCDs, but I have a dimension desktop with 18" LCD, so is it just me or anyone else have similar graphics card with same prob?  Appreciate any solution besides just switching DVI to analog, thx:-)
