U2413, calibration, on mac?
Hello.
I understand that i would need a newer version of Dell UltraSharp Calibration Solution, for hardware calibration of a U2413, with the x-rite i1. I can only find 1.5.3 for mac. I can make a calibration, but i don't think is writing to the LUT. Does anyone knows where to find a newer version?
All the best

That is "gamma" selection ("how fast greys light up to white") not "gamut" (how much colorspace calibration target should be)
That is enough to say taht you do not have hardware calibration. You need Windows (dual boot, not virtual machine or Parallels) on your mac, or a Windows PS to hardware calibrate your monitor.
ICC/ICM file is V4 and I said to that version 2 profile is NEEDED, so...
Anyway, with OSX you cannot hardware calibrate U2413, U2713H or U3014. You saw it.
Without hardware calibration if you do not have an AMD/ATI graphics card (or an nvidia Quadro)... you WON'T be able to calibrate properly a widegamut monitor with graphics card LUT. Any monitor. It's due to gamer/laptop nvidia and intel graphics cards hardware limitation. Thay cannot calibrate porperly monitors using their LUTs and that's a very bad issue for wide gamut monitors, an acceptable one for sRGB monitors.
Use windows with U2413, you'll get LUT3D calibration capabilities
Use NEC PA242W or Eizo CS240, you'll get LUT3D calibration capabilities under OSX
Use windows with any of these GB-LED monitors and with an AMD Firepro or nvidia Quadro, you'll get LUT3D calibration capabilities plus 10bit support.
Apple is not a good choice for image or photo: OS limitations (no 10bit), plus hardware limitations (nvidia or intel GPUs), plus limited vendor support (dell)

See if this 1.5.7 version will install and run. I know it states UP2715K but give it a shot anyway. The monitor USB upstream cable must be connected directly to the computer USB port, no dock.

Thanks Chris.
It looks like it runs the same way as the 1.5.3 version.
Is there a way to tell if the profile is being writing to the Lut? - I seem to have the same options with/or without the upstream cable connected.

You have 2 LUTs in your system:
-"one" in graphics card ( they are 3 x LUT1D, per output)
-monitor LUT ( it's a LUT3D with serveral "memory" slots)
A proper LUT3D calibration modifies monitor internal LUT (LUT3D). A proper hardware calibration software after calibration is stored in monitor measures several color patches and creates a ICC/ICM file which contains current monitor behaviour (gamut, gamma, white) AND A LINEAL LUT (input=output) for graphics card LUT, so no calibration is applied in graphics card.
A "Normal" calibration is done in graphgics card LUT, for example i1Profiler. So ICC/ICM file generated contaisn a NON LINEAR LUT.
In order to know if DCCS 1.5.x for OSX is writing LUT3D:
-Calibrate CAL1 to a limited non native gamut, for example sRGB or AdobeRGB preset in DCCS 1.5.7. Make sure that profile is ICC VERSION 2, must be version 2. Set a new name, like, "U2413_dell_support_test_cal1.icm" so you wont mess with overwriting files.
-check resulting ICC/ICM file ("U2413_dell_support_test_cal1.icm" ) with argyllCMS/DispcalGUI which are free software and avaliable to Win/Linux/OSX.
If ICC/ICM profile shows no limited gamut (from native), you have no hardware calibration
If ICC/ICM profile shows no linear LUT for graphics card, you have no hardware calibration
If this comparision with DispaclGUI seems dificult to you, upload "U2413_dell_support_test_cal1.icm" to some online storing web like mega, depositfiles, dropbox... the one you like most, but file must have public access so I can download it and check it for you.
Edit : To avoid some mistakes done by DCCS or OSX color managed desktop, best to try CAL1= DCCS' AdobeRGB preset + 120cd/m2. We avoid the very unlikely situation when DCCS mess up OSX color managed desktop and make all patches limited to sRGB. It's a limited gamut setup because AdobeRGB red is "smaller" than native gamut red, so we have a smoking gun for our test.

Thank you so much for a really good explanation on this subject:-)
I can only choose between: Standard(default), custom, and sRGB) in gamma menu.
I have uploaded the icc profiles along with some screenshots here: www.dropbox.com/.../AAA_fasvMZhhHCpPC5yFkpy9a
Thanks!

I forgot to report something. Gamut and TRC (gamma) of an v4 ICC file cannot be "plotted" with ArgyllCMS/DispcalGUI, but graphics card calibration (VCGT, 3xLUT1D) could be spotted easily.
You can see by yourself that calibration is done in graphics card, banding will arise if your mac does not have an AMD graphics card.
Maybe the most cheap way to calibrate your dell is to ask some friend with a windows laptop to go to your site. DCCS could be made "portable" if Xrite's device manager drivers are installed on that computer, or just installaDCCS 1.5.3 and then uninstall it from your friends laptop onec work is done. Once CAL1 and CAL2 are wrote to your desired targets, copy profiles (ICM files) to your Mac,... or if you wish to, make a "profile only" with DispcalGUI and RG_phosphor spectral correction in OSX (linear lut profile for graphics card, no calibration, just monitor behaviour stored in profile).
Beware limited range HDMI outputs from laptops with Nvidia, search google, it could be easily patched.

Have you found a solution to your problem/question?
After scouring the web I have yet to find an answer, it seems that with the Mac version, they are implying that it is possible, but no one has said they have.
Thanks!
