U2415, MBP, not recognized with HDMI cable?

I purchased the U2415 for use with my new Apple MacBook Pro. An HDMI cable shipped with the monitor, but it does not work with the laptop. I have connected the HDMI cable and powered on the monitor, and the display reads "No DP Cable". Why on earth would this monitor not work with an HDMI cable? Thanks for your help, wise ones!

Unfortunately, Dell does not test/validate this monitor model on Apple hardware, ports, and software. Because of this, Dell does not have many troubleshooting steps to offer. You could post on the Apple Discussions Forum and see what they say.

We did not ship an HDMI cable with the U2415. We shipped a mDP to DP cable.

Doesn't the MBP have a thunderbolt/mDP out port? Set the U2415 Input Source to DP.

Then setup like this.
MBP thunderbolt/mDP out --> U2415 mDP to DP cable --> U2415 DP in

Hi Chris -

Thanks for your reply.

The DP to mini DP cable does work, but because I have two monitors, they take up all both of the thunderbolt ports on my Mac, and I can't use them for other things. I was hoping to have one of the monitors connect through HDMI in order to free up a thunderbolt port.

I do have an HDMI to HDMI cable, which I swear had shipped with the monitors, but maybe I'm mistaken. At any rate, is there some reason that HDMI would not work with a Mac? I thought it would work on either platform.

I don't think I can access the Import Source menu, since there is no Mac compatible driver software for the monitors. Am I missing another way to use the menu?

Thanks for your help,

Laura

Apologies. Just saw that you replied to this thread. Did you purchase two U2415s? Or is the other monitor a different model? If different, what specific model? All Dell monitor OSD (On Screen Display) work by pressing the Menu button and are not tied to the computer.
