U2415 and Surface Pro 3 (no dock) - display blinking on and off using mDP -> DP
Hello,
I've had my new U2415 for just over a week, now, and have been grappling with the issue of the monitor blinking to black, then back on, then black, and so forth. Currently, it is connected to my Surface Pro 3 via the mini displayport, using the DP out port on the monitor; I do not use the Surface Pro 3 dock. The issue seems to happen invariably, but seems to occur even more promptly after I've let my Surface sleep and resume my work on it from there.
I have already run the built-in diagnostic on the monitor and was able to see all of the colours and the diagnostic text display. I have tried purchasing a third-party mDP to DP cable, which has not helped.
Oddly enough, the issue does not occur at all if I connect my surface to the monitor via HDMI using a mDP to HDMI adapter on my surface, and then connect the adapter to the monitor using an HDMI cable. I would prefer to sort out the issue of using the displayport in, however, as I may end up using two monitors in addition to my Surface in the future.
I have ensured that Windows 8.1 is fully up to date. Again, this was to no avail.
I am wondering if there is an issue with the actual DP in on the monitor, itself, as, otherwise, the monitor is working well, and I am uncertain if the issue has to do with my Surface, as it is outputting fine using the mDP to HDMI adapter.
Any ideas what may be at issue? Is an exchange for another monitor warranted?

You could initiate a monitor exchange. Test the replacement before sending any monitor back to Dell. If the replacement does not have the issue, keep it and send us the original. If the replacement has the SAME issue, the monitors were not at fault. Send the replacement back to Dell. Look to the SP3 operating system drivers or hardware as the culprit.

I have hundreds of U2415 in production - many of them daisy chained using the mDP. We have had this issue a lot. First, we make sure they're daisy chained if the user has multiple displays and enable DisplayPort 1.2 on the main monitor. Next, we update EVERYTHING - especially the BIOS. It usually works; however, I feel that this is an issue with the monitor as we get the flashing screens on users using DVI to DP.
