U2417H, MST daisy chain issue

GeForce GTX 750 Ti video card
The issue is that I am trying to daisy chain two U2417H monitors via the DisplayPort. My setup is 750 ti --> Monitor1 (MST On) --> Monitor2 (MST off). When I turn on my PC, the screens are blank. In order to get the screens to work properly, I have to turn MST off, then boot the system. When booted, I have to turn MST on again and they are extended as expected. How do I configure the setup to allow MST to survive the reboot?

I am confused. The Dell OEM GTX 750 Ti does not have a DP out port? It has mHDMI out/DVI-D out/DVI-I out. Is that a retail GTX 750 Ti with DP out port? The video card must have a DP out port or mDP out port to daisy chain.
In theory, this would be the setups =
* PC DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #1 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST ON)
* #1 U2417H DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST OFF)
-or-
* PC DP out port --> DP to DP cable --> #1 U2417H DP in port (Menu- Display- MST ON)
* #1 U2417H DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST OFF)
* PC mDP out port --> U2417H mDP to DP cable --> #1 U2417H DP in port (Menu- Display- MST ON)
* #1 U2417H DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST OFF)

* PC mDP out port --> mDP to mDP cable --> #1 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST ON)

Yes it is a retail GTX 750 Ti with DP out. So I have this setup as you describe. However it does not survive reboot.
PC DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #1 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST ON)
#1 U2417H DP out port --> U2417H DP to mDP cable --> #2 U2417H mDP in port (Menu- Display- MST OFF)

I doubt that the reboot fault is with the new monitors. Is there a newer video card with DP out port to test in the nine year old Studio XPS 7100? Or a different, newer PC to test the configuration below?
