"I have used a cable with DVI connection on the graphics card end and a DP connection for the monitor" Won't work in that direction. Via a straight cable, PC DVI cannot upconvert to a monitor DP. The cable you bought is designed to do this = PC DP out port --> DP to DVI cable --> Monitor DVI in port
Try this = * Turn the PC off * Turn the U2711 off * Disconnect every cable (including the power cable) from the U2711 * Press the U2711 power button in for 8 seconds (clears any residual power in the circuits) * Reconnect the power cable to the U2711 * Connect a straight DVI to DVI cable from the PC DVI out port to the U2711 DVI in port * Turn the U2711 on, then the PC
I followed your advice's exactly, but the only thing that happened is a floating dialog box "No DisplayPort cable". And since I can't get into the on screen display (OSD) I can't change to another input source. So is it possible to unlock the OSD when there is no DisplayPort cable and no signal recognised or is the only solution to buy a display port cable?
Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to this cable which the monitor apparently recognised as a DP cable: I have used a cable with DVI connection on the graphics card end and a DP connection for the monitor.
So I don't have a real DP cable at this point.
My question is: Is it possible to unlock the OSD when there is no DisplayPort cable and no signal recognised or is the only solution to buy a display port cable?

I now have a DP cable connected to the video card and the monitor works, but I haven't been able to unlock the on screen display yet.
With the computer running and a working monitor I've many times tried pressing button 5 for 15 seconds and I've also tried pressing button 4 & 5 for 15 seconds, neither has unlocked the on screen display. If I press button 3 to change the input source I hear a beep sound and the monitor exits.

I found this old post:
"How to reset the monitor" and I downloaded and installed softMCCS and used it to reset my monitor, unfortunately, that didn't unlock the OSD.
But in softMCCS there is an option to change the Input Source, so I changed from DisplayPort to HDMI and that worked.

I am confused. Earlier you stated, "When I disconnect the DP cable I get the message "No displayport cable", so you have a DP cable there?

I do not know if this monitor will allow access to the menu if you connect just a DP to DP cable to it without a PC DP driving it.

I'll rephrase myself:
Is it possible to unlock the OSD when there is no DisplayPort cable and no signal recognised or is the only solution to buy a display port cable and connect it to the one of the DisplayPorts on the videocard?

I think that is the only solution.

Some more information:
There is no "LOCKED" symbol displayed, could it be something else that stops the OSD from working?
One possibility I've thought about is to make a factory reset, is it at all possible of you can't get into the OSD?

Pressing the menu button for 15 seconds will unlock the OSD. But if the OSD is already unlocked and still not working, time to replace that U2711.
