U2713HM Monitor - sudden interference on display

I have had this monitor since August, 2013 and have had not problems until recently.  I was using an HDMI to SVGA converter.  I wasn't able to get top resolution, but all was good.  One day the connection stopped working.  I tried a different SVGA cable and still couldn't get it to work.  Swapped out the converter too - nothing.  So, I switched to an HDMI cable and it worked.  (got the higher resolution too).  I also got strange red dots on the screen, which i can't get rid of.  I have tried two other HDMI cables and have updated the driver, but can't seem to get rid of them.  I'm using a Vizio laptop with Windows 7.  Any help would be appreciated.

dseasterling,

Run the U2713HM BID (Built-in Diagnostics)
* The monitor is on
* Disconnect all video cables from the monitor (VGA/DVI/DP/mDP/HDMI,etc.)
* The monitor goes into its self-test mode
* Press and hold buttons 1 and 4 for two seconds. A grey screen appears
* Press button 4 again. A red screen appears
* Press button 4 again. A green screen appears
* Press button 4 again. A blue screen appears
* Press button 4 again. A black screen appears
* Press button 4 again. A white screen appears
* To exit, press button 4
If you do not detect the screen abnormalities, the monitor is functioning properly. The issue lies with the video card, video card ports, video card driver, the display setting, or the cabling.

Thanks.  test was negative, so I will explore other options.  I appreciate the prompt reply.

I talked with Vizio and we tried hooking the computer up to a different monitor (duh) and the display on that monitor looked fine using hdmi to display adapter.  I went to use the same display cable with the Dell monitor and remembered the reason I moved from display cable to HDMI cable in the first place.  The Dell monitor stopped receiving a signal on the display port.  It still doesn't see a signal, so I can't test it with a display cable.  I think I have a monitor problem, considering the display on another monitor looks good.
