U2720QM, unable to play 4K on Netflix with Mac
Hi, I use a 14" Macbook Pro 2021 with the Dell U2720QM monitor. No matter what I try, I can't get to play 4K on Netflix.
I have all the requirements listed on Netflix's support page. An Apple Silicon Mac, premium subscription, high speed internet, and a monitor that supports HDCP 2.2 according to its user guide, latest version of Safari.
I also have the high resolution mode enabled on the monitor. I've tried connecting my Mac directly with the USB-C cable and the HDMI cable that came with the monitor, but failed. Both my Mac and the Dell monitor have the latest firmware.
I am able to play 4K on YouTube, so I suspect it has something to do with the HDCP requirement that Netflix is known to be picky on.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I'd appreciate it so much. Thanks!

@andrewhan1 The requirements page includes the following:
A 60Hz 4K capable display (with HDCP 2.2 connection if external display).
The 14-inch MacBook Pro’s display is not 4K capable since it uses 3024x1964. I don’t know exactly WHY the requirements state that all displays must support those requirements rather than only the display you’re using for content, but if that requirement exists, then that seems to be where you’re falling short.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
I can confirm this is not the case because I can play Netflix in 4K HDR with the built-in display of my Macbook.

@andrewhan1 Ok, good to know. My wife just for a 2021 14” MBP but we didn’t actually try that since we don’t normally use Netflix from our laptops. In that case this may be an OS issue, maybe specific to Apple Silicon or even the new systems, in which case you may need to wait for an OS update. Monterey just recently came out, and I’ve already seen many reports of things that broke for users who updated from Big Sur, including basic things like USB data connectivity to USB-C displays. I wouldn’t be too surprised if HDCP glitches existed with external displays too. It would certainly be nice if Apple allowed applications to check for the various requirements so that Macs could have something equivalent to CyberLink’s tool to check for UHD BD compatibility and tell you where the problem was, but it doesn’t look like that’s feasible to offer on macOS. But one way you could potentially confirm HDCP 2.2 support would be to try connecting your display to some other device that required HDCP 2.2 for some feature and check whether that feature worked in that setup.
