U3014, back light vertical lines and random horizontal artifacts.
Hi.
So Ive had my Dell U3014 since its release back in spring of 2013. Revision A01.
First issue, there are lines in the back light that are vertical. Go all over the screen and most visible on a dark background. It looks like one line has back light and the next over is slightly dimmer and this repeats across the whole screen. I will try to to take a picture of this. This issue has been present since the day I bought this monitor. This issue is present regardless if there is a display input going into the monitor.
Second issue is random and I have no way of reproducing or what exactly causes it. Basically gray horizontal artifacts appear on the screen and disappear. They appear very fast. At first I though this could be a GPU issue, so I swapped PCs. Regardless this occurs even on different computers. The issue began occurring few months ago. This does not occur often, its fairly rare but does happen. One thing I want to note is that when this issue is happening, the monitor menu will not open. To make the monitor stop having this issue, I have to unplug it from the power outlet for 5 seconds or so.
This occurs regardless of what input i use. I'm using the cables that came with the monitor.
Should i just have this monitor exchanged with a newer revision?
Thanks.

For the first issue, we will need to see pictures of the BID (Built-in Diagnostics page 63) colored screens (gray, red, green, blue, black, white) showing the issue.
For the second, you might try a hard reset of the U3014.
* Turn the monitor off
* Disconnect all cables from the monitor including the power cable
* Press the monitor power button in for 30 seconds
* Reconnect all cables and retest

Thanks for the reply.
Ive performed a hard reset and will report back if the artifact issue persists.
As for the weird back light, its visible on the black screen of the diagnostic screen. Though barely visible. Ill get a picture of it but i suspect that's normal for the type of back light used in this panel.
Thanks.

I seems the artifact issue is back. Been fine for past 3 months but now occurring again. Additionally, Ive set up a second monitor that is connected to the same GPU as the U3014 and no artifacts appear on the second monitor while they appear on the U3014.
Switched inputs around, same results.
Also, another issue developed. Since moving to x99 platform, while the monitors USB hub is plugged into my motherboards USB port, my system would hang at the BIOS splash screen. It seems to only occur when the monitors USB hub is plugged in. Using the supplied USB cable.
According to the ASUS support, the motherboard halts startup due to USB over current protection.
So I'm not sure whats going on with this monitor, I'm thinking of doing a exchange but is there any assurance I will get the latest revision of this monitor in my exchange? What is the current revision available for exchanges?
Thanks.

Here i am sharing the solution to the vertical lines appearing on display screen. In case if you face any difficulty in understanding or implementing these steps then you can check step by step text and pictorial representation of this method in Dell U3014 Monitor Manual. So lets begin:
Reconnect the cable to both devices and check to see if the vertical lines are still present.
