I already answered the apple OS question on your other thread.
You can connect multiple computers to the U3415W inputs (HDMI, DP, mDP). Then use the U3415W Menu OSD (On Screen Display) -Input Source to switch between them.
If you must see both the windows and apple desktops on the same screen (this will never be tested by Dell), PBP Full or PBP Aspect Ratio are the best choices. I would not. I would simply switch between them (Input Source) using full screen for both.
I did too, and I made some trials with the double screen yesterday. I own a Macpro, no display manager is available I guess for Mac, so I was using the monitor on screen display to activate PBP , to choose the type of PBP split, and finally to select the inputs : say main screen input uses HDMI and second screen uses Display port.
This way I had 2 different and independent screens, each one from a different input . ( The fact I used the same Mac is not relevant, I can use 2 Macs or a MAc and a PC provided that you have the right cables to connect each pc/mac to a different Dell input.
However, a big caveat : my mac pro diplay setting was accepting only two resolutions each half screen: the 3440x1440 or the 2560x1440 . As you can imagine each screen was compressing images too much, and the proportions were wrong . Basically a nice feature, but I can't use it until I find a way to get a more logical scale, such as 1440*1080 , that adapts better to this half screen , who is in fact a 21 inches 10,5:9 !!
Maybe for mac we need a OSX upgrade where the u3415w has more options !
Changing the resolution to make the PIP more useable and have a better aspect ratio is managed on the Mac using the Settings | Displays | and then choose scaled for your U3415W. I found 1344x756 (60MHz)was about right for me. I'm trying to work out how I can connect the Mac Mini using the USB Up port to allow control of both displays with a single keyboard and mouse.

MBP Thunderbolt out ---> DELL mDP to Dp cable --->U3415w DP works fine.
However MacPRO 2013 , Thunderbolt out---> DELL mDP to Dp cable --->U3415w DP doesn't work as a main screen , it goes on stand-by
Surprisingly, It works as a secondary display if I connect another screen as primary with the HDMI port !!
That's why I just ordered a mDP to mDP cable 1,2 , to see if it can have MacPro working from Thunderbolt out--->Dell mDP in
