U4320Q, MacBook Pro, switch from Apple to Windows?

Hello
I have a Dell U4320Q and a Macbook Pro (M1) is connected over USB-C and the Windows PC over DisplayPort1.
I installed the Dell Display Manager on the Windows PC and there I defined a shortcut to get from DP1 to USB-C (can switch from Windows PC to Mac). That works wonderfully, but my problem now is how do I get back from the Mac (USB-C) to the Windows PC (DP1). Could anybody give me some advice?
Many thanks for the help
Greeting

@suxus  You'd need Dell Display Manager for Mac which to my knowledge doesn't exist.  So if you want to go back, you'd have to use the buttons on the display.  Dell doesn't provide any support at all for using their displays with Apple systems, sadly.

@suxus  Yes, Logitech Flow would technically be an option since it's available for both Mac and PC, but it's typically designed for having multiple systems each with its own dedicated display.  So using it in a PiP setup might be a bit awkward in terms of the experience.

Hello

Is purhaps Logitech Flow a option? Main-Screen is the Win-PC and as second screen (in PIP) is the Mac. When i flow from the main screen to the PIP screen i can use the mac and when i flow from the Mac to the main screen i can use the Win-PC?

Use the "shortcut keys" under Personalize in the OSD menu, or use DDM on the Windows PC to switch back from the Mac to the PC (assuming the PC is running and you have kbd access to it). If you cannot see what's on the PC screen, define a Windows shortcut and hotkey to "ddm.exe /SetActiveInput DP1". Unlike with older Dell monitors, DDM can communicate with the U43 and newer models even when OSX, Linux, an AVR or a game console owns the full screen active input. If you want to get creative, you could set up the U43 in PBP mode, and then swap and full-screen zoom the desktop you want to use at any given moment.

@swamped207

Thanks for the answer, but I don't quite understand what exactly I have to do and where.
Both computers are running (Mac and Win), the DDM runs on the Win PC.

In the DDM I set up a shortcut to switch to the Mac.

And how do I get back from the Mac to the Win PC? The input source is then the Mac (USB-C), i.e. the Win-PC is running but I can no longer see the screen because the Mac is active.

Do I have to set up something on the DDM or in the OSD of the monitor?

Many thanks for the support

@swamped207  Even if this display would pay attention to an inactive source for DDM commands, I don't really see how setting up a keyboard shortcut to run a shortcut command from an inactive Windows PC is easier than just using the display's built-in controls to switch inputs.  And I'm not sure what you mean by "U43 and newer".  The "43" is the diagonal size of the display.  The second digit pair, i.e. "20" is the "model year" of the display, so that's what determines how new a display is.

@suxus  DDM on the Windows PC can switch you to the Mac because the Windows PC is "active" when you press the shortcut key.  But that causes the display to switch video and USB data over to the Mac.  So at that point, it's not paying attention to the Windows PC anymore, which means you can't use shortcuts from the Windows PC.  And since you don't have DDM on your Mac, because DDM isn't available for Mac, there's no way to use shortcuts from your Mac while your Mac is active.  So when you want to switch from your Mac back to your PC, you'll need to use the physical buttons on the display to switch the input to whatever port your Windows PC is using.  If you can't figure out how to do that just by experimenting with the buttons, go to support.dell.com and search your display model name, then click the Documentation tab, where you'll find the user manual.

Even though you cannot see the Windows PC screen when the using the Mac, (a) is the Windows PC still running and (b) do you have keyboard access to it (as you would if it was a Windows laptop)? If the answer is Yes to both (a) and (b) then you can change back from the Mac (USB-C) to the PC (DP) using the Windows PC keyboard. Is the answer to (a) and (b) Yes? If it is, then just setup up 2 Windows shortcuts on your Windows PC:

1. "ddm.exe /SetActiveInput USB-C" as the target, and (e.g.) Ctrl+Shift+M as the Shortcut key

2. "ddm.exe /SetActiveInput DP" as the target, and (e.g.) Ctrl+Shift+W as the Shortcut key

Then whenever you want to have the U43 switch from Windows to the Mac fullscreen, hit Ctrl+Shift+M on the Windows PC keyboard. And whenever you want to have the U43 switch from the Mac back to Windows fullscreen, hit Ctrl+Shift+W on the Windows PC keyboard.

(As for the question if this is easier than using the OSD monitor menu, I didn't say it was and the answer is Maybe: if the monitor is wall mounted and the OSD buttons are difficult to access, then the answer is Yes definitely. It depends on your setup. Even if the monitor is inches away from you, triggering a hotkey combination from a keyboard could arguably be easier than pressing a couple of the monitor OSD buttons.)

I find it, the right command in the target filed is.

to Mac
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Dell Display Manager\ddm.exe" "/SetActiveInput USB-C"

to Win
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Dell Display Manager\ddm.exe" "/SetActiveInput DP1"

I now i must only installed the Dell Display Manager on my Win-PC and can now switch from Win to Mac and Mac to Win. Both has the same mouse and keyboard (Logitech Master) i must only switch on the Logitech devices. Great, thank you very much.

regards
