U4919DW, DDM, Easy Arrange issue

Hi all,

I un-boxed my Dell 49 UltraSharp U4919DW and am really excited about this new screen.

However, I already experienced that the Easy Arrange feature does not seem to work on certain programs? In particular, I'm trying it on my trading software Ninjatrader and that programs simply ignores the areas defined by the Display Manager.

It works just fine with other programs like Excel and Chrome.

Any solutions for this?

Trading is my main purpose for this screen, so it would be really bad if this can't be solve somehow.

Thank in advance for all and any help.

Best regards,

John

This won't work with NinjaTrader which uses custom window styles and wrappers. The solution is to update DDM to the latest version, which includes special and complete support for NinjaTrader. But to handle standard applications that run with Admin privileges, you do indeed need run DDM with Admin privileges - that is just Windows UAC policy.

If your NinjaTrader software is running with admin privileges and DDM is not, then DDM won't be able to touch it.

A second possibility is if the NinjaTrader software draws custom, non-standard windows that do not have a Windows system menu or size control: Alt+Space > Size.

Hi.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I've tried running DDM as an administrator, but it does not seem to make a difference. Changing around regular Windows stuff (Word, Edge, etc.) lights up the frames from Easy Arrange ready to snap. Doing the same with Ninjatrader and nothing happens...

Alt + Space did not seem to help either.

Any other ideas?

Best regards,

Johannes

I'm afraid NinjaTrader paints its own non-tracking custom borders and title bars: it won't work with Easy Arrange - or with Windows Snap for likely the same reason. Its not that the windows can't be sized and/or positioned by EA; its that EA doesn't know when they are being sized or positioned.

Hi again, swamped207,

That's a big disappointment as NinjaTrader is basically the main software I will be using for this new screen of mine and I was sure that tiling windows would be easy.

Are there any other solutions for this beyond EasyArrange?

Can some other software be used?

Thanks.

Do a search for screen partitioning software and you'll find things like MaxTo, WinSplit and AquaSnap - but don't be surprised if they have the same problem with NinjaTrader.

So, I just tested MaxTo and it simply does not recognize NinjaTrader.

I suppose it's the same issue with the other programs, although I haven't tested yet.

I guess I'm hosed...

Not what you were hoping for, but the next release of DDM allows you to "manually" send a NinjaTrader window to a partitioned cell, from a popup menu. But you won't be able to drag and drop the window into a cell using the mouse.

Hi again, swamped207,

Sounds good. Any idea when that version is due and if it will be practical?

For now, I was actually able to find a software which helps me. It's called Divvy.

I prefer DDM since I can snap to regions.

The way Divvy works is that it resizes the actual windows. For now, I find it a bit more cumbersome, but I think I can create custom workspaces which I can load automatically. At least I hope so.

Thanks for all your help.

I believe the new version will be out in a couple of weeks. Apparently, it has special code to handle NinjaTrader and everything seems to work the way it should with no limitations...

You must exit the display manager then reopen by "run as administrator", once open using admin credentials, then all program includes those running with admin credentials will then start working. Just found this resolution today testing multiple applications. ~Sascha (IT Specialists with USGS)
