U4919DW, stuck at 3840x1080 after Windows update

Going crazy here.

I have updated everything - Nvidia drivers, Windows update, dell monitor firmware - everything -but after a Windows 10 update, my U4919DW is stuck in 3840x1080. I got no idea why, but it is frustrating, when I can see everything is updated.

I got no idea what to do. It happened to me once before, but after some days, there suddenly was a Win update, and then it got fixed. I think - at least that is how I remember it.

Any idea how to fix it asap?

On the U4919DW driver page =

Dell U4919DW Patch Update = Intel HD Graphics 630 to support resolution setting of 5120x1440 60Hz.

Give it a shot and let us know what happens.

Have a look at this from Intel.

Unable to set 5120 x 1440 resolution after updating Intel® Graphics driver (versions higher than 100.7262).

Environment:
  • Windows® 10
  • Samsung* CRG9 Monitor or similar that supports resolution 5120 x 1440

How to fix it:

The issue has been fixed with driver version 26.20.100.7985 or higher.

Visit Intel Download Center to obtain the latest generic drivers.

@ReginVels  Back in 2020, there were reports about an Intel Graphics driver update that broke 5120x1440 resolution and ran those displays at 3840x1080. Windows Update can push drivers, so that might be the issue. Try uninstalling the Intel Graphics software from Programs and Features and then installing the latest drivers directly from Dell.

@DELL-Chris M Interesting!  I just took a look at that, and even though it's called a Firmware Image on the download page, it's actually a Windows registry file that sets an "Enable5kmodesupport" setting in a few places.  And upon some further research, it is indeed confirmed necessary for certain Intel GPUs and even works on some other non-Dell 5120x1440 displays.  I'm now curious what exactly this registry change does and why it's necessary in the first place rather than enabled by default, but since it seems to be related specifically to Intel GPUs and only became necessary with relatively recent driver updates, I suppose that's a question for Intel.  Hopefully this fix works for @ReginVels!

Thanks.

I have been putting up with 3840 x 1018 on my U4919DW since a Windows Update on my Surface Book 2 since around April 2020. I had not been able to find a fix that worked until I came across this suggestion today. After downloading, running, and then rebooting, I am now happily back at 5120x1440.

Great New Year's present!
