Check out the threads here for a lot of discussion on the 2405:

The last I read the worst was that the screen looked a little more washed out compared to the 2005fpw, but I haven't once a problem with backlighting with the 2405.

The 2405FPW is insanely nice. The picture does NOT appear to be washed out at all when compared with 2005FPW. It is the richest in color and black is really pitch dark black. No problems here. I like the built in card reader, a very nice touch. One less item off my desk.

This monitor is very nice. No back light bleed and very crisp and bright. The stand and fit & finish is really superb.

Im hoping i hear nothing but good abt this monitor i sold my old 1702fp to get the 2005fpw and i was soo disapointed.Leakage like no other ive seen before.I know alot of the time u get what u pay for, theres a reason the refurbished site has 20-25 more monitors every day.Evan at 25% off and 75$ its still not worth it.On the 2405fpw note, i wish they didnt have the card reader myself, after all im buying a monitor not a 3 in 1 tool. But i know its nice for some people out there and im sure cost wise itsonly a extra 35 40 $..
Im still waiting for that 25% off and 75$ sale!!:smileywink:

i received my 2405FPW Display a couple days ago... and i'd like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same things...

first and foremost, does anyone have any idea where the service tag is on the display... i've called techinical support? several times for hours over the last couple days and given them every single number on this display, none of which seems to be the service tag...

secondly... while the display looks great using the DVI from my laptop... when i connect a DVD player through the component, near the top of the screen, just a couple inches down... i'm getting an inch wide strip of distortion that runs across the entire screen... before anyone jumps to conclusions... i've tested this with multiple DVD titles, and yes 3 different DVD players, including the newest samsung upconvert HD DVD player... and different cables, each time, i'm getting the exact same response... perfect picture most of the screen and inch wide strip at the top of distortion...

i've been trying to get someone from dell to answer this question... but evidently, three phone calls, each lasting almost two hours before i'm ultimately disconnected or hung up on, is not enough...

if anyone has any information, comments, etc... please post them... thanks...

Hi scribler74

The Dell 2405FPW does not come with a service tag but has REV A00 or A01 and Order number on your slip white paper that is on the brown Dell box. That is the one you use
when you call Dell customer service.

DELL provides service tag numbers to customers who purchased monitors with PC. That's waht I was told.

Hi noritsugu

Yes you are right, you do get a TAG Number on your computer that gives information on the Dell computer you have bought which in clude the keyboaud, mouse, monitor and mouse matt. But if you buy a monitor or printer, it does not come with a TAG just order Number that you use when calling dell service.

Let the 2405FPW warm up for about 5 minutes before you judge colors. It tends to be dim until the lamps get right...

This panel has zero backlighting issues from what I've seen so far

There is no service tag for the panel, you have to give your order or customer number to get it exchanged.

When you're using the DVD player, is it set for progressive scan correctly?

Remember that the 2405FPW is a 16:10 aspect ratio, and most DVD/HDTV content is 16:9 and wider...so most stuff will have black bars at the top and bottom, even if its a widescreen DVD.

Not sure why you're seeing distortion, have you messed with the imaging settings on OSD?

I'm having the same problems with component input on my 2405FPW. There's about an inch's width of distortion at the top of the screen with some movies & some it does not even display. I think it may be a sync issue because after trying many movies & combinations I found that certain material does display. The FBI warnings in movies & other 'disclaimers' display perfectly, but as soon as there is any movement on the screen (i.e. menus, the movie itself) it goes out of sync and does not display. S-Video, Composite & DVI (from the computer) all work fine.

The only problem I am having is connected via DVI I cont access or change the Scaling option under Image Settings. I can do this on my 2005FPW. For me compared to the 2005FPW:

The font size is about the same on both:

The 2405FPW is brighter if set on 100, Blacker background and higher contrast:

As a side note I did go through 5 different 2005FPW's before getting one without the backlight leakage and this one looks great now.

The only thing I noticed on the 2405FPW while playine World of Warcraft some of the secondary boxes you open have pixelatted backgrounds and the 2005FPW does not.

All in all I am very happy but think there is a something wrong being I cant adjust the Scaling and should be able to.

ATTENTION 2405 FPW OWNERS...

So I believe that I've finally figured out what the problem is with connecting the 2045 to DVD players... There is technically nothing wrong with the display. The reason we are getting distortion at the top of the display from DVD player is because of COPY-PROTECTION... That's right. I believe its Macrovision... its essentially the same problem that people run into when running DVD players through VCRs...

I figured this out when I attempted to play a ripped copy of the Incredibles... and it played fine using a DVD player... of course this is not ideal...

What I've come up with at this point... and any help would be appreciated... is this...

Either you will have to rip all your DVDs, removing the copyprotection... or hack the DVD player... or... i believe there may be some sort of box that can go between the DVD player and the display...
