What docking station should i get?
Hi!
I have dual monitors at home. One 2560x1440p 144hz and one 3840x2160p 60hz which is quite taxing in terms of bandwidth for a docking station. I want to have a docking station for my work laptop that can fully support both those monitors, but which should i get?
I have a docking station at work, a Dell WD19, but it doesn't work at home.
Those that say they can handle dual 4k monitors have a supported max resolution of 5120 x 2880 - 60 Hz, which seems too low for my needs, but maybe im wrong?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Tim

@Timlov 5120x2880 is almost as many total pixels as dual 4K. And 2560x1440 144 Hz requires almost the same bandwidth as 4K 60 Hz. But you’ve omitted a key bit of information here: the model of the system you plan to use here. A Thunderbolt 3 dock that is capable of dual 4K 60 Hz should be able to handle QHD 144 Hz + 4K 60 Hz, although you might need to drop the refresh rate on the former slightly (maybe to 120 Hz) depending on the DisplayPort revision supported by the attached system. But whichever revision it supports, it will need to support running Thunderbolt 3 to the dock. The regular WD19 and WD19S are USB-C, non-Thunderbolt docks, but the WD19TB and WD19TBS use Thunderbolt. (The S models are newer and dropped the headset jack because of some supply chain issue that prevented Dell from continuing to build them.) Note that with the WD19TB models, you may have to use specific combinations of outputs to make that setup work, and the combination of outputs will depend on the capabilities of the source system.
