another 2005 fpw problem post & question

Has anyone gotten or known of anyone who has gotten a 2005fpw that does not have a problem?

I just received one yesterday that has one dead pixel and light leak at the top & bottom edges.  The dead pixel is not too terribly noticeable as it is on the left edge of the screen.  The light leaks are not as bad as some that I have seen pictures of here.

If there is no one out there that has gotten a good monitor, I certainly would not want to waste my time with waiting for another.

ive not seen anyone who has a perfect monitor with no leakage/dead pixels. it definitely appears to be a manufacturing defect and wish DELL would address the issue. they are wasting a fortune with ppl returning back monitor after monitor instead of just issueing some kind of statement about it.

After thinking about this quite a bit, I am willing to do one return.  If the second monitor is still not adequate, I will get another model.

I must be a lucky one. My 2005 has no dead pixels and no defects. It is soild on a black screen with no light showing on the edges. Good luck with yours, there has to be more than one good one.

I've on the phone with dell trying to make some arrangements.

If I want to return the monitor altogether, I have to pay for shipping AND lose my 25% discount coupon that I used.  I can not even get that back to buy another Dell monitor.  That just doesn't seem quite right.

Ouch! Talk about adding insult to injury.

Mine is Rev A00 November 2004, Mfg Mexico.  I used LCDTEST that showed the light leaking at the top of the monitor and one dead pixel on the left side of the screen.  Even before the LCDTEST was run, the light leaking problem was quite evident on dark scenes of videos.

I'd like to hear from someone who actually did run the LCDTEST and found that his/her monitor is without the light leaking defect.

I'm going to be getting the XPS Gen 4 soon. Can't decide on a monitor. You seem to be pleased with your 2005 wide. Do you game with it and if so whats your experience. Just trying to decide on the wide screen or the older 2001 fp.

Not sure of this but ALL 3 of the exchanges for the 2005FPW I got were REV A00, all had dead pixels and backlight issues.

Just checked my new monitor it has 2 on pixels that I dont notice during normal ops. It is Rev A00 Nov 2004 in Mexico. There is also an MX number but I am not sure if that is serial number. I have tried it out with a ATI 9800 Pro and NVidia Ti4600 and after loading the drivers all the resolutions work fine. I looked for the leakage and it maybe there but if I look straight on it is not bad. If I look at an angle it is bad. My old monitor is a Dell P1110 and I am gaining 1 Inch on the sides and losing about 1.5 Inches from the top. In the correct resolution I am really not missing much. U can open two programs side by side fully which is nice and at this resolution I can still see full pages in word. I hope this helps I will keep an eye on it and update if needed. I am using it in EQ2 right now and EQ2 suppports wide screen in native resolution so it is great all my UI's info is off to the side so I have more viewable center screen.

my replacement arrived, also a Nov 04 build rev A00...has 1 dead pixel and bad backlight issues still in the top right corner (still makes dvds unwatchable)

very disappointing! i think ppl who are claiming who have perfect monitors arent testing properly.

btw why are u playing that EQ junk, WoW baby!!

LOL, Arthas76. My friend was lucky enough to check out WoW and didn't care for it and I took his word for it and stuck with him and moved to EQ2. All the reviews of WoW have been excellent though.

Ok back to the monitor. I want to make sure I am checking it out properly. First I hooked it up via DVI to two different systems one with a ATI 9800 Pro and an NVidia Ti4600. I ran the LCD test on both and could only find 2 stuck on pixels on the black screen and didn't notice anything else on the other color screens. I then turned off the lights and went to black screen and looked for the light leakage. Looking straight on there seemed to be some but it wasn't as bad or distinct as Pics I have seen on the forum but if I looked at it off angle it was really bad. I haven't played any DVD's yet but will do that tonight. This monitor is very bright and crisp. I turned down the brightness to 60% from the factory set 100. If there is any input on anything else to check this out please let me know I will be happy to give it a try.

maybe your friend hasnt heard about the EQ developers playing WoW during their breaks ;) having tried both WoW is far superior esp if you hope to enjoy PvP.

to really check for leakage leave the monitor on for a few hours (it appears to get worse when it heats up) then turn all the lights off. also try angling the monitor slightly...run LCD test on the complete black screen and run a letterboxed dvd and check the corners.
