I have had the same problem for a couple weeks though not for more than 5 minutes delay until today -- Does anyone know if this is a monitor, software or virus issue....don't even know where to start -- j

I have this problem too.  But, now it won't come on at all on any computer.  Must be the monitor.  It just keeps flashing the lights and has a black screen.  Hooked it to another computer & did same thing.  Also put another monitor on the computer where the 1702 was and came up perfect.

Now what?

I had the same expereince with deterioration until the monitor did not come on at all and other monitor worked fine.  I then talked to a Dell Rep for quite awhile -- As far as I could determine, the monitor is toast and I've ordered a new one.....

While the Tech was telling my husband what to do to check it, which I had already done at least twice, I was taking apart to check.  Unhooked all wire connectors and made sure they were connected good, gently blew with canned air and put back together.  Lights were still blinking for about 5-10 mins. then it came up and works.  As long as we don't turn it off, it works.  That is why it stopped working.  It was turned off.  No more.  It may only last a week or 5 years, better than having to replace it right now.  Works perfect.  We paid a lot of money, A LOT of money, when we bought the whole system and I will squeeze every ounce of color out of it.

I don't know if I actually did anything by taking apart, but, the tech was telling us to just replace it and throw it out so what was the harm?!!!!!!  If you do, just be very careful.  Case was alittle tough to get off but be gentle and it will come off and go back together.

This seems to be a common problem with the 1702FP LCD monitor. The leds flicker back and forth until the monitor comes to life. This could be minutes, hours or never. For you technical types I replaced a 10 mfd capacitor at location C507. This is to the left of a 5 pin regulator (LM25965) on the large circuit board. This is a tiny surface mounted capacitor and polarity is important. Soldering skill is very important because this is microsurgery. I solder tacked a standard 10 mfd 35 volt capacitor in place of the removed capacitor.
