You should only start up in safe mode by press f8, otherwise you start up like normal. And when you start up in safemode your resolution and colors are limited. Are you saying everytime you start up your computer your it goes to safemode? Is that what you mean by asking how to start back up in normal mode?

You post is very confusing, I can't really tell what your asking. You subject header says you cannot display "this" video mode, but then you don't say what mode in your post. Are you talking color, resolution, both?

You don't even say what display you have, but by saying TFT you probably mean a flat panel, so what size is it so we know it's capabilities.

Then you say you turned the monitor off for 15 seconds and it's still there, what's still there? Why would turning the monitor off change anything?

Please explain your problem better so that maybe I or others can better help you.

Hi...
I may be having a similar problem... I posted this earlier under the video section, not sure if I have sufficient info either:

" I have a brand new "1 week old" computer (Dimension 8400). The monitor will randomly go blank. In saying blank, i mean black... no image at all, and will frequently go into standby as if the signal is not coming through. On occasion it displays the following message: 2: DIGITAL INPUT CAN NOT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO MODE. "
This is very frustrating... It is almost impossible to use the computer when this is happening...

I have a 17" FP monitor (1704FPT monitor).
Have tried ringing Dell Tech support. They suggested using the VGA cable instead of the DVI cable. Its such a random problem thats its hard to tell if this has resolved the problem (and if it has, is it a valid solution?). But without fail, to date, the monitor has "gone blank" every single time we have used the computer since it was delivered.

I don't really understand enough about it to really appreciate how switching cables will help. Was also told to check the status of the "lights" at the back of the box when the problem is occuring. Again, I wish I knew more about computers to really understand what is going on... very new to all this!

Hope this makes sense... excuse the spelling (its kinda late)
If anybody can fill me in on what this all means, it would be most appreciated!!
Cheers,
Brujita

Sorry... after reading a few more posts, I seem to be having a very similar problem to Mattford77

Have some more info about my system that might help:
Using Windows XP Home edition
Currently using the VGA (blue cable) after being advised to do so by Dell tech support.
Runninig at 1280x1024 res. refresh rate is 60htz.
video card is: RADEON X300 Series
Monitor driver says: "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" (?? Is that right??)

When I press th little '-' button on the screen it first shows a floating coloured box which reads 2: Digital Input Self Test feature check (this is with the blue cable plugged in). If i press the button again, I get a little black bar across the screen which reads 1: ANALOGUE INPUT.

If I push the menu button on the screen, I am presented with the Analogue menu options.

And just to clarify... I currently only have ONE cable plugged into the the monitor/computer... the blue one (as requested by dell tech support)

Hope this extra info helps...
would love to resolve this "blank screen" issue...

thanks, brujita

Also, I do have the same system as you. And you do need to install a monitor driver but dont expect it to do anything. Good luck!!!!!!!

I hear you, Tech support told me also to just use the blue cable. If your going to spend the cash for the upgrade you want to use the monitor to its full potential, digital mode. I hope someone has a answer soon.
