monitor entering power safe mode?
hi folks,
i have a bit of a problem, my monitor keeps going into entering power safe mode, i have spent time on the phone with tech support today to get it to work with a hdmi cable, it worked for about an hour then this happened out of the blue . its a23" st230l uk/irish full hd wled widescreen monitor (vga, dvi-d, hdmi), keeps telling me its not receiving power from the computer etc. and displaying the entering powersafe mode. any solutions, its 2 days old.
the one tech support chap i eventually got to speak with was great, as i had 2 initial issues, when i run a game i get a black frame around it (unreseovled ) and the hdmi issue , i had been using vga cable be wanted to run it on hdmi mode, ( i used the black adapter).
any help would be apprechieated
thanks

The next time the monitor enters power save mode...
* The PC is still on
* Turn the monitor off
* Disconnect the HDMI cable from the monitor
* Wait 30 seconds
* Reconnect the HDMI cable to the monitor
* Power on the monitor. This should force the video card to re-sync the HDMI. You might need to press the monitor Input Source Select button and choose HDMI

The culprit is the video card, not the monitor. The monitor HDMI port is passive. The video card HDMI port is active. If the video card HDMI stops polling the monitor (sending a signal), the monitor will go into Power Save Mode. Why doesn't the video card constantly send a signal through the HDMI port? I do not know.

thanks for the reply chris,
it just wont work unless i repeat this procedure each time i boot up the machine, so i took out the hdmi cable and used the analog one, it may be that the hdmi cable and the black adapter that connects to it are faulty, if i can find a one piece hdmi-dvi (i think thats what its called on the graphics card imput) cable from dell it might be able to get it to run but until then ill just have to run it on the analog cable.
they should have tested this prior to shipping imo, :emotion-42:

If you use that cable, it will only transmit video. DVI does not do audio. I cannot find that monitor here? What cables shipped with the monitor?

standard analog cable and two adaptors was all that came with it.
i bought a hdmi cable from my local retailer and used the black adaptor
thanks chris
