monitor reset

What does "perform monitor reset" mean?  How do you do it?  Especially on a monitor which has no power;  the light is not on.  Does the rectangular slot on the back of the monitor with the padlock symbot beside it, have anything to do with performing a monitor reset?

Tell us about your monitor....We are not mind readers here on this forum..:smileyvery-happy:  Is it a LCD or CRT and what model is it.  A reset button is normally located in the front of the monitor and can be pressed in to reset to the factory settings.  Also tell us about your system as well, ie:  Dim 2400 or Dim 4700, etc.  Make sure all the cables and power cord are connected firmly, as well as the video card.  Can you connect another monitor to the system to see if it works ?  If so, than maybe the monitor is just bad.  If the other monitor does not work, something in the system is defective.  Try another wall socket just for the heck of it.  Get back to us as soon as possible...Good luck

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Check this out and look for the reset or auto adjust button information from here...Also, did you install the monitor driver, which should also have the monitor guide with it as did mine ?

Sorry about that.  My monitor is a flat panel 15"  E151fp.  It is working fine now.  I am complaining about the troubleshooting advice.  It is not clear.  The cables were fine.  The electric outlet was fine.  Plugged another monitor in, and it was fine.  And why is the monitor working fine?  Because my husband, the retired engineer stuck a screw driver into the small rectangular slot on the back of the monitor which has a symbol next to it that looks like a padlock.  As soon as he did this, the light came on the monitor when he plugged it in.  Is that a reset button of some sort?  Nothing is said about it.  And I still don't know what "perform reset" means.  Where is there a reset?  Not that I can see on the front of my monitor.  Not mentioned in the user guide I have for this monitor, or any of the stuff on the Dell web site.  I would have thrown this monitor away, and this would have been unfortunate, since it is working fine now.
