power saving mode

Could someone please give me some advice with my monitor?  When I am on my computer the monitor shuts down with a message of power saving mode (no, I don't have it set for any type of saving mode).  I then have to shut down completely and most of the time it opens back up again, although sometimes it only shows a blinking space on a black background and I have to re-start it again (and sometimes again!

shellfletch,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What monitor is giving that error message? Are your power management settings set to "Never" turn off harddrive and monitor?

I just got off the phone with tech support. He told me it was usually the video card driver that was messed up by a microsoft automatic update. He told me to restart in safe mode, go into device manager then display adapter and remove the video card. Then restart in normal mode and the computer will get the right driver and fix the problem. I can't try it until after work so if you do let me know if it works.
