DD CIFS tape out
hi ,
One of our customers has a requirement of everyday's backups should be retained for 3 years.
As the backup clients are win2k3 , we asked them to dump sql natively to DD CIFS.
The same CIFS share we are mounting to Networker server and writing to tapes with their UNC path.
Does anyone see any any kind of risk here?

I would probably not use DD as storage-in-the-middle, but simply have some space created on the box (or some share from primary storage) and have it dump directly to tape from there. Those dumps normally do not de-dupe well so if you use DD I think it would be waste of storage.

thanks for quickly jumping in
the boxes are pretty old , and have very less local space, and for 30 days we need onsite data
the tapes are sent offsite.
using dedupe was not a the intention.
any other technical risks?
