NMM backup more than once a day

Hi!

I have NMM in a dag environment. (Exchange 2010 backup)

Everything is fine, but when i want to schedule a backup more than

once a day, it scheduled to run, but doesnt run automatically.

Manually runs fine, but automatically doesnt runs.

The goal is:

To run the log backup more than once a day. 2 hours frequency is required.

The current behaviour is:

The backup is running once a day. Scheduled to run it appears it will

run in GUI but doesnt run.

Here is the current variables:

NSR_SNAP_TYPE=vss

NSR_EXCHANGE_DAG=dag.example.com

group settings:

Interval: 2:00

Force incremental: checked

Snapshots:

Snapshot: checked

Snapshot Policy: Serverless Backup

Snapshot policy:

Serverless backup: Number of snapshots: 1

Retain snapshots: 0

I think the problem maybe around snapshot creation.

Hello Paul,

This is basically because of the snapshot policy.

You are instructing the group to take only one snapshot per day, so that's why backup doesn't run anymore.

Settings should be as follows:

Create a new snapshot policy and set the following values:

Number of snapshots=12

Retain Snapshots=0

Backup=All

If you set that snapshot policy and leave the group interval =2:00, starting at 0:00 for example, this will do as follows:

1.- First snapshot taken at 0:00 will be full and rolled over to tape.

2.- Second snapshot will be incremental and rolled over to tape, same for the other 10 snapshots.

3.- Snapshot number 13 will be already for the next day, so will be also full and rolled over to tape.

It is mandatory to backup all, as otherwise backup level will be always full, as snapshots not rolled over to tape can be only full.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you.

Carlos.

Hi!

Thanks for the quick response.

Very good. I will try it.

I want to backup the Exchange always incrementally, except on the weekdays.

Second questions:

Our schedule goal is:

I want to run incremental backup in every 2 hours on the weekdays.

I want to run full backup in the same group on Sunday.  (But only once)

When i setup the group scedule according this and set up the snapshot policy according to

your recommendations, it possible to implement this expectations?

(incremental on weekdays in every 2 hours and full on Sunday)

or i have to make separate groups?

Thanks a lot.

Hello Paul,

At first thought I would say you would need to create different groups for different schedules however, after thinking it twice I got another idea:

You could try (I never tested but theoretically should work)have the 2 nodes of the DAG in the same group, and don't assign any schedule to the group.

Create 2 different schedules, one for the incremental backups and another one for the weekend backup.

Assign to one of the nodes (having NSR_EXCH2010_BACKUP=all) the schedule for the incremental, and assign the other schedule for the weekend backup to the other node having the same variable.

I believe this could work, but having in mind that the snapshot policy plays his game here maybe it won't work, and if it doesn't backup will fail as you are trying to backup the same DB's twice because of the variable NSR_EXCH2010_BACKUP=all.

But to make it simpler I think creating 2 groups would be the best approach.

Thank you.

Carlos.
