Networker NVP / ESXi DUAL IP / Dedicated IP to backup.

Hello,

trying to File level restore to a VM. We got two IP for each ESXi.

One is dedicated to Management (1Gbps), and the other network/vmkernel is dedicated for backup (10gbps).

When we are doing backup and restore as we use the hosts file on proxies we can successfully backup and restore by the backup network.

But when we are trying FLR restore, vProxy quesry the vCenter for location of the VM, and vCenter answer back with only one management IP  and as you guess... the 1gbps network which is NOT accessible from vProxies.

To be clear : ESXi (vmkernel)/ vCenter (dual IP)/ vProxy / NWS / Datadomain / other backup stuff are all in the same VLAN which is called backup. they have ONLY ONE Network card / IP (backup).

and ESXi & vCenter have another IP on "Management Network". they have TWO network card / IP (management / backup).

We try to tag the secondary vmkernel as 'Management Network" on ESXi with no luck. vCenter queries always return only 1 IP.

We also try to modify the hosts file on vProxy. with no luck as the vcenter answer an IP and NOT a hostname (which is quite stupid as networker rely on DNS).

Any documentation or help on dual IP on ESXi or dedicated network interface (vmkernel) for backup?

Really apreciate help on this topic.

Regards,

Jacques

We done that the "hard" way...

Route add mannagement_front_ip via management_backup_ip.

You said what? Yeah Yeah! Iin Production of course!

Bullshit that EMC should change! Never saw that in VEEAM / NAKIVO / NetBackup / Rubrik and so on!

EMC is the only one where we can't select backup lan. Lastest experience with Networker Bullshit at all! I'll move to another backup solution next year and be sure i WON'T select EMC one.
