Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s),

Greetings,

First let me say yes I have searched the forums and yes I have found threads about the error. But the solutions don't seem to apply or work. So here's the problem.

I set up a new Red Hat 5.4 server with NW 7.4.4 client. I created a client using NMC on the NW 7.4.2 server on a Red Hat 4.7 server and ran a Test save group using a Test media pools. The job didn't nothing for like 10 minutes and then abort with this error:

savegrp: host:/ss save was never started
* Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s), please refer to daemon.raw for further details

I looked at the daemon log and found:

Now the new server is in a install vlan with no DNS access. But I've set 3 other clients in the install vlan without any problem.

I tried a connectivity test from the new server to the NW server with the command:

# savefs -s -pv

I got these in daemon.log:

nsrexecd Warning, cannot resolve host ' ' to ' ', name server may be misconfigured.

I've doubled checked all that I can think of and delete and recreate the client in NW. Nothing. I've compared what I can think of with this new server and the other servers I've set up. Nothing.

Any Ideas?
Thanks

Hi Victor ,

Can you please let us know the version of the OS on the other 3 clients .I think the os version Red Hat 5.4 server is not compatible with NW 7.4.4 client .Please double check with emc

Thanks

They're all Red Hat 5.4 running NW client 7.4.4Build634

Networker runs with DNS support. as you don't have DNS installed have you verified the client hosts file for networker server entries. Also try putting client name and IP entry on networker server hosts file. I'm not sure this will work. Just try.

Please check your login/password if you are running backups with separate login. I have been getting these probe errors from windows clients if credentials have been wrong(typos etc)

Yes I have check the /etc/hosts files on both the client and server several times. The necessary information is in there.

The backups aren't using a separate login/password.

I'm puzzled by the error message you get from client side. Can you elaborate to what it is exactly .

Oops, typo. It should have been as in ###.###.###.###

Problem solved. Turned out to be two entries in the /etc/hosts for the new client. The 1st entry specified the wrong IP address. Removed that 1st entry and backups started working.
